Disappointing afternoon out. Think we effectively lost it in the first fifteen minutes of each half. Wire came out clearly determined to put some recent disappointing performances behind them and we failed to match them from the off.
Having fallen twelve points behind we proceeded to claw our way back into the game by sheer guts and determination and were looking the better outfit at the break.
We then made the same mistake at the start of the second-half and were caught by the double sucker punch. Thought we did well to stop them from scoring again, especially during that period of sustained pressure when we had to make a lot of tackles on the bounce, but the last thirty minutes had an air of inevitability about it, result wise. Maybe if Lewis' try had stood it might have triggered a comeback but I'm not too sure on that count.
Agree with other posters who say we look a tired side running on an empty tank. The continued absence of specific players and the unbalanced nature of the side is catching up with us a touch. The big worry is there are still eleven games to go which is a lot of rugby still to play. JC needs to find a way to inject another dose of energy into the side or we may find ourselves in the all too familiar scenario of the season drifting away to a limp ending.
Overall, the season is still in the positive column approaching the two-third mark, but if we lose too many of these upcoming home games it will likely leave a flat taste in everyone's mouths come September. I'm still positive about where we are going and we all knew it would be a long road back to respectability. Think the trick is not to get too despondent when games like today unfold, it's just a bump in the road, that's all, we're still in a pretty decent place right now. If we beat Wire at our place it'll two from three against them in 2025, those are the kind of targets we need to aim for as the rebuild goes on.
Keep the faith, as always, everyone!!
