| Having watched the tackle made on the Doncaster player it is probably up there with the worst I have seen in the modern game. I know historically we have gone through various phases of questionable play but in the modern game this definitely is now a rarity.

| I know the lad in question and believe me or not but you couldn’t meet a nicer person. Honestly, he’s the sort of lad you’d be happy to marry your daughter to.
He’s absolutely devastated that he’s been caught up in an incident like this and while he knows it looks awful and will take whatever punishment he gets he was not trying to do anything dangerous or malicious.
He was trying to plant his feet and drop his body in an attempt to pull the player over but he got it completely wrong and you can see the end result.
He knows what it looks like and understands the anger at him but he wasn’t trying to hurt the player in any way.
I’d just add this, be careful with your condemnation, he’s a young family man and has been badly affected by the reactions, so much so that he’s having to take help from the RFL Rugby League cares and their welfare team.

Personally I believe you but we live in an age of faux outrage and hysteria about almost everything, the OP is a prime example. Gone are the days of common sense and an acceptance that things occasionally go wrong. Nowadays there has to be a reason, it can never be just one of those things, there has to be a villain and there has to be a show trial and there has to be a sentence to send out a message.
So best of luck to the lad but I can’t say I hold out much hope, he’s about to be cancelled or the RL equivalent. Everybody is now guilty until proved innocent.

having not seen the footage but reading the BBC report there's three serious fowl plays in the game, he's now got 12 months ban, now 1 incident I can understand in the heat of the moment but 3 you have to question whats going on in his head

| Unfortunately actions have consequences, whether he's a nice guy or not.

Wouldn’t argue with that, so long as consistency prevails which it rarely does in the case of the RL disciplinary group.

Absolutely agree, as I said, he knows how it looks and will accept the punishment whatever that may be. We now know that it’s a 12 month ban but he knows that he put another player in danger and will take the consequences.
I agree with Vasty though, there has to be consistency across all levels of the game. For years we’ve seen amateur players and players from the lower divisions given hefty fines and lengthy bans only for higher profile players to get away with relatively lenient punishments for much the same offence.

But I don't think I've ever seen anyone in the higher profile teams go in with 2 feet. So it's hard to say he's nit being treated the same.
I think the max he could have got for the 3 offences was 19 months, so 12 months was not over the top.
