It`s a good point Lampy, we need to make sure we are getting recruitment right, but I very much doubt we will unless we have a change in personnel at the top based on the last few years.

As poor as these players look right now I don`t think they are poor players at all, I think they are been made to look bad on the basis we play with very little structure, IMHO dropping a few quality additions into this side wouldn't make that much difference at all whilst playing "The Wakefield way", drop a coach in that knows how he wants to play and knows how to get a side well drilled and for starters knows his best team and you would see a world of difference.

The frustrating thing though is not making the most out of the budget we do have, why on earth we have signed Ashurst is beyond me, the bloke looks done when you look at how he`s moving around the field, brilliant player and servant to the club but hanging on too long.

For me, it would be the entire front row.

Fifita - way past his best, and don't think we'll ever see that player we had 2-3 seasons ago, ever again

Arona - again not the same player he was, but I just feel that there are better players out there now. Yes, he has the effort, but you won't win many games on effort alone, and I think now his quota spot could be better used.

Green - not seen him do much in the whole time he's been here, if we had someone coming in to replace him, would happily see him go now.

Battye - looked good at the start, but sadly his performances have tailed off.

Hooking.

Kyle Wood - I think it has been said that this will be his last year. However, if not, although on the way down I think, he's probably still our best option, so I would offer a 1 year extension.

Josh Wood - he can tackle that is for sure, but doesn't seem to offer much go forward. Personally, I would offload.

Kay, Walker, Jordy have all been used there, but I think should only do so as a stop gap.

Alex Walker - not really seen the early hype live up to expectations when on the field. Personally, I would offload, especially now Gaskell has been signed.

Bill Tupou - nowhere near the same player he was and too many wrong options. He has, though, had some wrotten luck with injuries. However I'm going to cut him a bit of slack, and would keep, if the deal was right. Remember, we have Croft and Greensmith
coming through.

TJ/LK/LK/IS - not sure here

If TJ does go chasing the dream, I'd look to replace him, with a player of a proven try scoring record

The other 3 though, do look to have a mistake in them, so I'm not sure on that yet.

WAKEFIELD TRINITY WILDCATS NEVER FINISHED BOTTOM OF SUPER LEAGUE NEVER RELEGATED NEVER INVOLVED IN FAKE MERGERS:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_28143.jpg

Doesn't matter who we sign until we move away from this split halves sideways crap we've been playing for 3 years too long. Everyone can see it's not working and it's why we score nil or a consolation. How many games do we camp on their 20 and get nowhere not even a decent set finish. Bring in the best players from the nrl or super league under these structures they are going to look clueless. Stevie Wonder could walk in the ground and tell you what's wrong. Only the CEO and Chester can't or are in denial. For nearly 3 years to not change anything is criminal. He's an obsession with the dream team left edge. But again 3 years ago and long term injuries have seen to that. As for Ashurst I'd have given him a year if we lacked depth in his position we don't so his signing is just a waste of a limited budget. Arona is not value for a quota spot anymore. I actually think Chester prefers the elder players hence looking at players or retaining players 30+ maybe he sees them as having less fire in the belly on the wind down and easier to manage.

Whilst they been good servents i feel both arona and billy are coming to end of there careers and wouldnt be upset if either left although are both not under contract.in fact i wouldnt mind if any of our quota players left apart from kelepi.not sure whst length these guys have left on there contracts but its an erea i think we could do better esp seeing salford are signing brodie croft.

Weren't we looking for another 2nd rower and fullback?
Don't know how many of these we need but I think we're covered in that department!
As for replacing TJ if he decides to chase the 'dream', we need halves that can create space for the centre to give the winger the ball.

Here is my list of retain/release:

Max Jowitt - Retain
Tom Johnstone - Release
Bill Tupou - Release
Reece Lyne - Retain
Liam Kay - Retain
Jacob Miller - Retain
Mason Lino - Retain
David Fifita - Release
Kyle Wood - Retain
Tinirau Arona - Release
Matty Ashurst - Retain
Kelepi Tanginoa - Retain
Joe Westerman - Gone
Jay Pitts - Retain
Eddie Battye - Retain
James Batchelor - Retain
Chris Green - Release
Innes Senior - Release
Jordan Crowther - Release
Joe Arundel - Release
Alex Walker - Release
Josh Wood - Release
Jack Croft - Retain
Brad Walker - Retain
Yusuf Aydin - Retain
Lee Kershaw - Retain
Ryan Hampshire - Release
Connor Bailey - Retain
Ollie Greensmith - Retain
Harry Bowes - Retain
Dane Windrow - ?

The above list does not take into account those players who have signed new deals already. Personally, I would have released Crowther and given Ashurst a one year deal. Big rebuild required. Time to shed the dead wood.

Top six 2005 - Trinity.:

I do think there needs to be a shift in the personnel at the club and something significant.

There’s a few decisions recently that have been a surprise to me. Mainly the 2 years extension of Ashurst who has been great for us but his recent form in 2020/2021 has been scratchy at best. We have Pitts (who has been good imo) and Tanginoa who imo should be the starting second rowers next year. One year I could probably understand but two seems a stretch and again sentimental from outwards looking in. Maybe it’s on a reduced rate then possibly it’s not so bad.

Crowther is another for me that seemed strange. Didn’t perform well at 9 (admirable he filled in) and then proceeded to get a long term injury. Also I think he’s solid but nothing more. Seemed a strange decision to offer a contract in my eyes. Hope he proves me wrong ofcourse. I want nothing more than trinity lads to become stars!

If I’m being blunt we are an ageing team In the forwards and are in desperate need of some forwards in their prime years. We really need investment in the front row and the 9 position. 2 good 9’s and 2/3 good props are definitely needed.

If Chester is to stay (I hope he succeeds) then the investment and the quality in the playing squad needs to increase. A difficult task indeed with limited funds.

It's a pointless thread if you are not considering who is in contract.
But if we are doing it, I'm amazed hardly anyone mentions our current international centre. He carries the team often. Vastly under rated by our fans.

Not me. Said it a bit back that Lyne has been consistently good for us over a prolonged period. He’s the ultimate professional imo and has achieved everything through hard work.

Completely pointless, too many fans live in a fantasy land where they think it’s as simple as career mode on fifa.
