| So we picked it up from Catalans, and now we may have infected Warrington.

| COVID-19 UPDATE: Two Trinity players return positive tests
1ST SEPTEMBER 2020
Two Wakefield Trinity players have returned positive tests for Covid-19 in the club’s third set of tests in the last week.
The Club have postponed a training session that was scheduled for Wednesday morning, when a decision will be made regarding our Betfred Super League fixture against Leeds Rhinos scheduled for Emerald Headingley on Thursday night.
Only one of the players who has tested positive was involved in our fixture against Warrington Wolves at the weekend.
Neither were identified as at risk following Test and Trace analysis of the Coral Challenge Cup tie against Catalans Dragons on August 22 – after which three Catalans players (one of whom was not involved in the Wakefield game) and one member of their backroom staff tested positive for Covid-19.
Since then the Dragons have had two further rounds of testing. In the second, one more player and another member of their backroom staff tested positive. In the third, the remaining 46 were negative.
The Catalans’ scheduled fixture against Leeds Rhinos next Monday has been postponed, because of the 14-day isolation period that followed last week’s positive tests.
Warrington Wolves have been informed of Wakefield’s positive tests, and Test and Trace analysis will now be carried out on Sunday’s game against Trinity to establish if any of the Wolves players will be required to stand down.Y

| Does that raise questions about the validity of the in game track and trace system? Especially since they didn’t identify the players infected?
If the track and trace in game system is ineffective I’m afraid there serious health and safety implications that need to be addressed by the game.

| First and foremost, I wish the players and their families well. There's no guarantee that the players contracted it at the catalans game, it could be from anywhere

I agree on both points Egg. There is a person in each case that is more important than how it affects the team.

This is true. Wish the players the best of health and hope they are okay.
But although it could have come from anywhere the date for positive test is consistent in timescale from the Catalans game 2 weeks ago. It’s hard not to look at the game as the most likely cause of infection. Again should the players have played in that game you have to look at the effectiveness of the track and trace which could have wider implications.
More information is needed I guess. Wish the players well.

| I wish the players well because it cannot be easy but we must now postpone our game against Leeds. The season is already becoming a fiasco but in order to receive the Sky money we must put those remaining fit players through games with short turnaround times against an opposition who could change at short notice.
Wakefield have tried to support Sky it is time we sat back and allowed the players to get through this outbreak even if it means isolation for all until all tests are clear.

| I still think its bonkers that we are putting the players (and more importantly their families) health at risk for a few quid from Sky.

| Sorry but Sky money or not the safety of the players and staff and that of their families now has to take priority. The system isn’t working and until it can be made to be an awful lot more effective then the season should be put on hold. If it can’t be made safe then it will have to be season over.

That few quid is probably the only thing that’s keeping our club going at this present time and will be for the foreseeable future .whilst no one wishes anyone to come down with the virus ,I’ve worked everyday through it and not thrown the towel in and I’m in the so called danger zone for my age . We’re all at risk from the virus as are our family’s but life goes on ,or should we all curl up under the duvet until sometime in the future this pandemic has blown over ,by which time none of us will have a club to support .

| I think as a sport we have to take a long look at what we are doing wrong in relation to Covid 19.
Clearly there is an issue that needs investigating.
Since the return to competitive play I can’t think of any other sport that has been affected so much.
Even rugby union where the players are in closer contacts often with many more players in those contacts haven’t had similar issues.
It may just be a coincidence I guess but I’d hope as a sport we are reviewing all protocols, as clubs and individuals to ensure the game or it’s players are not putting themselves at risk in non game situations.

Its not a few quid though
It’s the money our club needs to function as a business
Without it we would not exist as it is our main income
