| Article in this weeks Barnsley Chronicle states that Shaw Lane FC are considering a move to Belle Vue!
Shaw Lane Association Football Club is a football club based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. They play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, at level 7 of the English football league system.
Have been a few time as they currently play over road from where i live but attendances have been poor and did not even sell out when played Mansfield in FA cup.

| It'd be good to have another club in the area. Ossett United seem to be positive following their merger a few weeks ago. It might also help with upgrading the stadium if we have a football club present as the FA have lots of little pots of money which can be accessed for local football club improvements

Didn't Shaw Lane start off as a works team and the owner continued ploughing loads of money in the club. Hope they move to the new Belle Vue development.

| I suggest that people on this board read Tykesmad Barnsley FC forum. The Shaw Lane AFC owner doesn't seem a very popular chap on there.
It would be nice to see an AFC club sharing the new Wakefield Community Stadium with us ( ), but I'm afraid that Wakefield apathy has already seen off the Wakefield Bears and Emley clubs.
Apparently the Shaw Lane owner is unhappy with crowds of only 200 or so supporters at Athersley. I'm afraid that crowds wouldn't be much different at Wakefield.

If it was done properly and linked up with the Wakefield football academy it would be good. Heard the FA are keen for a strong club in Wakefield and it'd be good for the community stadium which I'm also hearing positive meetings have taken place regarding that finally getting built.

Not surprising really as he's a dee dar and a devoted Wednesday fan who recently had to retract a statement concerning Barnsley's relegation.
As for Wakefield's apathy towards semi pro football teams, maybe the owner of the ground might see things differently with the extra revenue, the ground at Athersley Rec is more than big enough atm, but if they get promoted again perhaps they'll need a bigger ground.

Think the article says if they moved they don't think it would be as soon as next season.

That's the key word allegedly, There are those that believe the promises made by the council and those that don't believe a word of it, if Shaw Lane have been encouraged to move to Bellevue by manniwotsisface then it's more likely to be the latter, they looked at moving down to Worsboro Dale but apparently it wasn't big enough, on that basis it looks like there might be something in it only time will tell, maybe a case of that old mathematical problem where 2+2=5 who knows or cares really.

| Just been talking to an older bloke in Thornes Park, as my daughter is doing a project for school, which involves approaching visitors and asking them if they have a spare couple of minutes to complete a questionnaire about the park.
Anyway, he got on the subject of sporting facilities in and around the city and mentioned golf. Apparently Wakefield golf course used to be situated on Heath Common. I don't know if people on here know this. I'm sure some will, and some won't. I didn't.
With this, and Neil Fox Way, could that area still be developed, as it has previously been used for sporting facilities. Surely a site here would be more suitable

That big house in front of the jip-ho's is called The Old Clubhouse isn't it still? It comes up for sale every now and then.

| There'll be no room for sporting facilities along Neil Fox Way when they've finished with the housing developments down there Eastern. Have you seen the extent of the excavations taking place now? All along the road you can see where they've already allowed provision for new entrance roads into new housing projects.
Yes, there was a golf course down there and te solitary building that stands there is the old club house. There was also a pub there called The Jolly Sailor: so called because the Barnsley canal ran past it.
