| Perfect result last night, Hull KR away for their first game back in SL, big expectant home crowd, not a easy task to win that game. All we needed was a a win and the two points, we did that and we did it without been perfect, the coaching staff have several areas to work on but I just thought that each of our players played well and a couple were fabulous. Team wise I thought the first 20 minutes were good, the finishing was good, the goal line defence was good, I think there was period in the second half when for 25 minutes that we just had to defend set after set and we did it well.
Obviously with the penalty count so high against us we have to get our discipline in order. The late hit on Mcquire was a real poor play and could have cost us more than it did. Not sure what all the other pens were for but its something the coaches can work on. I was just so impressed with our determination and the individual skill levels of our players. I would suggest that Hull KR will win games at home especially if McQuire stays fit.

| Yeah. That pointless late hit on McGuire when he'd just punted aimlessly down field was real dumb play and gave KR the position for their only score. Who was the guy?

Actually I don't think it is dumb. Due to unconverted tries our lead was not unassailable. So why not take the wind out of the only HKR player remotely capable of breaking us. Yes we gave territory but our defence was good all night and by tha time Fanny was fully recovered the threat was over.
It's all about percentages and Kirmo must have felt the need. Also the S/R is well catered for so players can become sacrificial parts so to speak.
I though it shut Fanny up for the rest of the game, job done.

| It was worth a penalty but no more than all the times Miller ended up on his are.
It wasn't a big hit he just pushed him while still in the air.

Then conspired with Finn to miss the tackle and allow HKR to score, double whammy!
It wasn’t good and it wasn’t a measured risk it was just sloppy on both counts ie the penalty then the defensive miss.
It didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but it is a tiny bit frustrating not to nil them after all the other great line defence.

Wood's error there was a bit of a rare occurrence for him but Kirmond has been a bit loose giving cheap penalties away for a while now. It did spoil a probable nilling of KR.

| Was it just mean or did it seem that we were frequently penalised for holding down when Rovers were not even though the time to complete tackles was about the same for each side? Am I imagining things or is it due to a (famous) moaning captain for the opposition was on the pitch?
Some teams seem to be quite smart at getting in the ref's ear about judgemental issues (such as how long it should take for a tackle to be complete). Why do we never do this when some other players/teams are renowned for it?

| Some of our holding down was clearly a penalty.
Monahan even said we gave some smart penalties away to give us time to regroup which I've never heard from a Wakefield coach before.
I don't think we were hard done to.
And to be fair, McGuire got penalised for mouthing when they had the ball on our line.

| Tbh I thought both teams got what they deserved from the ref. Refs are notoriously whistle happy at the start of a season. Whilst players reactions are not yet up to speed. Things will calm down soon enough.

| I thought some of our holding down was clever and, in a way, showed how confident our guys must be when given chance to set the defensive line out. It was so obvious that I was surprised we didn't cop for team warning though.
