With players like Hirst it tends to go two ways.
Some quickly realise there was a reason thy were second tier players and find themselves quickly out of thier depth especially in the forwards. They then disappear without a trace.
The other is the sort who has all the attributes but has never really pushed themselves because it was easy just to coast along. They then find themselves playing superior players and realise it's sink or swim.
This is not unique to sportsman there are late bloomers everywhere in life. It takes most people a while to work it all out but when they do they often eclipse the early starters.
Let's hope Hirst is the latter and now has the drive and determination to really make his mark. I hate all this roll model stuff but in this case it's more apt than normal. I'm not trying to labour the point but Hirst is now in a position to dispel a number of myth and good on him. It's a bit of added pressure mainly of his own making but I reckon he'll do ok.
