Trinity lost another of its favourite son's this week, when former full back, Eric Lockwood, passed away last Thursday, aged 81, after a short illness.
Anyone that met Eric always noted what a friendly, pleasant man he was. He still regularly attended the Trinity games and was always the 'unsung hero' surrounded by the 1960s greats. Thats why we selected him to kick off last year's Widnes game when the club were looking for a 'legend'
Eric signed for Trinity in November 1953 from the local Holy Trinity Boys Club, a Trinity junior team. He started at stand off and made his debut that same month in a 26-18 home win over Huddersfield. He partnered the great Arthur Fletcher in the halves. Anyone that played with him classed him as a tough-as-teak player, never taking a backward step and always supporting the youngsters in the team.
He played a total of 123 games for the club, later moving to full back. He moved to Doncaster in 1961 when the pressures on Gerry Round and Don Metcalfe forced him into the A team. He returned later in his career to coach the juniors and was always a welcome figure at Belle Vue

Remember him as full back whenI first started supporting as a child.

Worked with Eric10yrs in early 60s he learned me to drive passed my test he took me new years day 1964.terrific tackler, expert at getting winger lined up before crashing him to touch, only man I ever saw get the better of him was tom van vollenoven it was an evening match at bell vue memories fade but I'm sure it was the famous game when we beat saints and Harold poynton made his debut. A nicer man you couldn't meet he learned me a lot rip mate

Sorry to Here that Eric has passed away he was a classmate of mine at snapethorpe , A great Lad, Friend and gave us all many hours of enjoyment watching him play for our beloved TRINITY.
