Next month i presume we see whatever team we have return for pre-season training. I would like to point out that too many games last season were lost in the last quarter and it appeared to me that the players did not appear to be 100% fit when compered to the opporsition.
More than ever next year we will need to be on the button and there is no excuse for full time proffesional players not being 100% fit. I would like to see RA introduce a tougher fitness regime from the off and make sure we are ready without any injuries from day one.
Each player shiuld look at their opposite number and compere themselves to them in both fitness and skill because you may not have the natural ability of your opposite number but there is no excuse for not being as fit or even fitter.

Couldn't agree more...Our fitness levels compared to that of our counterparts wasn't very good at all. I appreciate our forwards need to be interchanged however, we should be getting more than 30 or 40 minutes out of them. Our backs also slowed down in the last quarter sometimes to a ridiculous pace.

If you take Wigan and Shudds for example (not on about quality here) man to man their performance outweighs ours by a country mile. Beast them for me, the ability to be able to keep the same tempo from start to finish is priceless in today's game.

Although we do need to be in peak condition, this wasn't the cause of these defeats in the last quarter of games.
Almost without exception, our ball control was poor for most of the season and it was the endless defensive work that was the main cause of our fatigue.
If you look at the stats you will find fewer completed sets and more handling errors than our competition which left us defending for longer periods.

Didn't help that on numerous occasions last season Agar practically only used three of his interchanges by either not playing the forth sub or bringing them on with less than quarter of an hour to go.

I disagree it was dumb plays that cost us. Very amaetur errors we kept making time and time again. Game management was non existant at times.

Think there is some merit in what you are saying Briggsy but It would be a difficult task.
At the moment we don't even have enough players to make a game and for it to work you would need
to put a training plan together for the full squad.

It would be no good starting a training regime for 14 or 15 players then let a further 10 or so players join it in dribs and drabs. It would be extremely hard for any conditioner to achieve high results under those circumstances.

But yes you are right there is no doubt fitness carried us through to win a lot of games in that 'Geoff Evans' trained side.

Yes i understand where your coming from Jack but meantime untill we have a full squad i do think the players themselves could up their own personal fitness plan ready to go when the full squad is assembled, lets hit the ground running.

I'm not sure what bit you are referring to on my post. As far as I know we have got a team....haven't we?
Until one of the kids is signed we don't really have a scrum half but a team with contracts for next year all the same

Anyway, the fitness thing, I agree with NGB4C to be honest.
Players tend to be out on their feet when they have to do more work because of silly errors, not because they are unfit.
It's not like any of them are Brendan Hill size, but if you keep turning the ball over, you will get tired before the opposition does.

The bit I'm referring is the bit that says we've got a side haven't we, look mate 17 players won't take us through a season unless we don't get an injury that seems pretty obvious which part I was referring to

Its a combination of things, fitness is only part of whats needed, i think most points have been covered already.

We do need to tighten up in all departments thats a give,

We're three weeks into the off season for goodness sake! I'd suggest we'll have a half dozen loanees before the season starts!

Ok, I see what you mean. The previous post implied we hadn't signed anyone, I was just saying we have people.
I agree that we need more. I didn't probably explain that properly

As people have said the tiredness came from turning the ball over and defending several repeat sets each game. The guys train hard and are fit. I can't speak for every player but I know that certain individuals always do their own fitness before the scheduled training as they take a pride in their job. Each player will have been given a regime to do before coming in for the first session. As NGB4C said (how is the Italian villa by the way?) our game management should have been lots better and this was also a big contributing factor in the teams tiredness.
