| Driving to work this morning along Newmarket lane there was a lowloader dropping off a massive bulldozer, just where the gate is. Driving home, gate was open a couple of site cabins were up along with geezers in hi-viz hard hats etc milling around. First steps perhaps?, anyone know owt else?.

| As posted previously, Newcold are very keen on the site and to get things started as soon as both relevant permissions and practicalities allow. I suspect they may be doing some pre-emptive detailed site investigation work given this keenness to get building as soon as they can, but at this stage this is just an educated guess and not insider knowledge.
I bumped into the WTW Chairman Michael in Wakefield last Saturday night and was able to have a quick chat with him over a beer. He has already had some brief dialogue with all the formal parties involved to introduce himself and let them know that once he has a handle on currently more pressing matters, that he can start to get up to speed on Newmarket and then wants to focus on how everyone works together to move things forward positively and get the stadium built, irrespective of everything else. He knows that the long-term future of WTW most probably lies beyond the ageing old girl that is Belle Vue! That said, work has not stopped and he had some positive news of his own which I can't share with you at moment, but probably puts another good piece of the funding jigsaw in place.
I know the club faces many challenges at the moment but it is genuinely hard not to be positive about Newmarket at the moment, ok things have moved slightly slower than envisaged, but they are moving forward positively... despite what the doom-mongers on this and other forums would have you try and believe!

| Ok, good news everyone!
As I mentioned at the Supporters Trust meeting the Newcold application is to go before the WMDC Planning Committee this coming Thursday 26th September at 10.30am in the Council Chamber in County Hall. The agenda pack for the meeting has now been uploaded to the website and it is the good news we expected.
rl]
Quote: "CONCLUSION
The proposal has been fully assessed against national and local planning policy guidance. Careful consideration has been given to all material planning considerations and in particular the visual impact of the development, the loss of landscaping, highways and noise issues.
The proposed building is in line with the Site Specific Policies Local Plan and will contribute towards bringing forward part of the B8 allocated for the site. The proposal will generate 154 jobs would benefit the district in terms of the long term economic gain. The proposed access road will enable other developments permitted within the outline consent to be delivered which will facilitate the delivery of further jobs and opportunities for investment.
The proposal would not prejudice the delivery of the remainder of the outline permission or
the community stadium. The application as submitted would contribute to moving forward the possible construction of the community stadium as it delivers part of the access road and infrastructure which is not presently available and is required if the stadium is to be constructed.
It is acknowledged that the proposal will have an impact in terms of visual amenity by virtue of the size of the building. The LVIA acknowledges that there are potential impacts on landscape character which are moderate adverse however there are none recorded as critical adverse and it is considered through appropriate mitigation in the form of maintaining the majority of established trees within the site as well as the planting of woodland trees and hedgerow that the impact of the proposal would be reduced.
In conclusion it is considered that the economic benefits and job creation through the development would outweigh the landscape and visual impact. The proposed development is on a site which has been specifically allocated for the type of use proposed. This has to be considered alongside the fact that the proposed development will be the first phase of a wider employment allocation and that it delivers infrastructure (including the road improvements allocation) which facilitate the delivery of the remainder of the site. Subject to the imposition of planning conditions the proposal is acceptable when assessed against national and local planning policy and therefore conditional approval of planning permission is recommended.'"
We understand they want to get started on-site as soon as possible!
