Man of the match for me yesterday, looks to have had a big off season and packed on the pounds. Looks poweful, didnt take a backwards step and Always looked to give 100% and on more than one occasion chased back to make cover tackles when Mathers couldn't.

Agreed. He had an excellent game, especially with his front row partner in the "early" bath.
Certainly a wlling runner and plays without fear.

I think he is a good player, albeit as a back row forward. Agar rates him very highly and rightly so.

I have seen the guy train he is deceptively strong and well built. He is well conditioned so I would have no complaints if he filled in at prop.

So the Trout debate continues.

Why do people pigeon hole young players? To say Trouts future lays at S/R is utter nonsense for a 21 year old - he has plenty of time to develop in any position in the pack.

A few points...

I made a point of watching him and the first thing I noticed was a fair bit taller than Stu Dickinson - a player many on here were desperate to see as our 5th prop. So clearly size is not the issue unless you are myopic.

He made a few errors. However he attempted to rectify them. To make a mistake is only human, it's how you respond to them that really counts - he responded well which is what a Prop or any player needs, he has attitude and ticker for a young lad.

He learns quick and adapts well. When I saw him in the academy and when he first played first team he ran upright. Poore runs upright as does Amor but they are both the size of a house and they do so to keep their hands free. Trout isn't big enough for that and has learned to go in low. He only got dumped back once and nearly came out the other side twice. As he perfects it he will make breaks eventually. This method takes guts, because head down is where the knees and elbows are.

Paul Gallen who is small uses this technique. Though he only props occasionally these days, when he does he still makes yards. Now I'm not suggesting Trout is the new Gallon. However he shows that if you adapt you can play any position in the pact no matter what size you are.

Trout can be a good club prop if he so wishes, another JT - it's up to him. I suspect he will go for S/R or utility however that's a congested market so he may think twice. Give the lad some slack.

Maybe I am mistaken as time erodes the memory somewhat, but I seem to remember the number 8 being the stand up off-loading prop and the number 10 often shorter and head down and at em.
JT ,Ted Campbell, Steve Lyons, Don Vines and Belly, when he played prop, being examples.
The point is if they are good enough they will come through.
I think Trout will.
People keep talking about Ben Gledhill.
Does anyone know how he is going on at Salford?
How many 1st team games has he under his belt?
Not being provocative, just interested.

Knee reconstruction may be part of that reason.

Playing him at prop would be career suicide for the lad.

Far too small to compete at top level at prop, get him in back row give him chance to develop.

In my opinion Vasty is correct, There has been plenty smaller that have made it in SL, and not just made it, been great players. As the famous quote goes don't be fooled by the physique.

Not a reconstruction but broken knee cap against widnes. They rushed him back a bit quick which prolonged his absence. Going great guns with a full pre-season under his belt. Should have a good season providing the club make it icon_rolleyes.gif
