| A new rule that allows hitting any part of the body to prevent the opposition from moving forward.
A new rule that allows as much interference as you like in the tackle.
A new rule that allows you to hit the kicker late and gains approval from the referee.
A new rule that says the referees are only allowed to use their whistles in case of an emergency.
A new rule that says big fracars are allowed and only one player shall be punished in a little way!
Watched a game just like this on the telly yesterday, it was in Australia. Fantastic, end to end and everybody seemed happy and got on with it - just a bit of arguing when someone in a darkened room thought a try was a try when it wasn't a try.
And then I cast my mind back to Sundays game...........grown up men being told off by an idiot with an over vibrating pea in his whistle and two geriatrics holding the flags for him.

Not an unreasonable assessment in my view - the SoO series is an intensified version of the weekly NRL games and there certainly is a completely different standard of refereeing in Aus than there is here; if Mr Child handled an NRL game for example, there'd be no players left on the pitch by half time.
Whether we should aspire to make SL the same is a separate argument however - the NRL is certainly faster and more intense than SL, whilst at the same time plagued with cheating; the players seem to have adapted to it though and just get on with it.
For mine, I'd just like to see a set of rules that everyone agrees with and crucially, that are enforced with skill, a level of discretion and most importantly, consistency.

| Runs alot smoother than the game over here in terms of stopping and starting for decisions (Half of them stupid) For instance the quick tap on the 20 would have been brought back because he wasnt in the centre of the field, there would of been about a thousand penalties for interferance at the PTB and possibly a couple of voulantry tackles and incorrect PTB balls thrown in HA. Oh and another plus over there is that EVERY ref has decent numeracy skills unlike some

| Sounds a great concept ! but as you probably know because the RFL tell us,we should continue with our forward thinking national policies of (and this is in no particular order)
A:Import as many average/injury ridden Antipodean players as possible at the expense of nurturing home grown talent.
B: Select said players for national side wherever possible, using whatever convoluted rule necessary and ignore the fact that if they were good enough they would be already playing internationals for their true nation of origin.
C: Employ a national coach with no proven track record who shall endeavour to baffle the paying public with team selections and who should in no way posess any ability to inspire said team or indeeed paying public.
D:At the beginning of each season make as many rule changes as possible, these shall be enforced rigorously for at least 4 weeks and thereafter shall be used at Referees discretion, depending totally on which teams are playing, the need to balance up the penalty count and or for maximum exposure for said referee on tv.
E: Instigate a policy for entry into top echelon of game based solely around wether applicants have access to a shiny new facility, skill levels and ability to compete should not be a factor, as empty stadiums and massively one sided scorelines look great on TV.
F: Wherever possible the ruling bodies shall continue to create as much confusion as possible with regards to fixtures, franchises, and funding.Creative accounting and blind eyes should be the watchwords when dealing with "Historic" or "Developing" clubs whereas "smaller" clubs should meet with the full force of whatever regulations we have in place during a particular week.
I could go on but it's a lovely day, this list is endless and beer gardens open soon, have a great magic weekend everybody.

| i just posted on another thread re SOO reffereeing but i think they get it about right. The sport is a fast, intense game and the referees should be more lenient in certain areas.
The VR referee decision was plain wrong but the decision regarding the fracas in the first half was 100% correct as Jennings was the only bloke to do anything really nasty/unprovoked in the whole incident (imo).
I just hate the way the games are reffed over here, egged on by the SKY commentary duo who bleat whenever a part of the tacklers body goes anywhere near the neck or face. I guess we have just got used to how stop/start games are over here that we end up picking out all possible technical offences in other games.

How about Mitchell Pearce landing 3 or 4 right hooks on Sam Thaiday?
I think maybe they let him off to acknowledge how much bottle it took!

| Another new concept.
Taking all the above to its logical conclusion is to have no rules at all.
I certainly do not advocate head high tackles.
The Aussies would soon be moaning if Ganson etc allowed the England team so much leeway in a test.
The obvious way forward is international consultation on rule interpretation.
But the obvious is too sensible.

yeah i think that was just about ok as it was face-to-face and Thaiday was ready for it, must be pretty hard to miss Thaiday's chin, its like punching Desperate Dan.
Jennings' contribution was just plain thuggery and deserved more puishment than the others.

We already have that - the Aussies tell us what's allowed and what isn't, and we obey.
