| Quote: boxweir "I have been looking forward to today's league express just to see this article and the true story exposed, once again the great master mind is back trying to change rugby league once again just as he did back in the day with keighley which if it wasn't for mike then maybe cougar mania might not of been part of our towns history
I think this new idea for the game is great and would open the door for so many clubs as a lot of people are losing faith in the franchise system. He has been working on this idea and a new way forward for some time as you can clearly see that it has been thought through thoroughly.
I for one applaud this idea and his efforts to try and make a change in the game to keep rugby league interesting, the league express must also think there is something there to give him a full page. For all those that have read the article what's everyone's thoughts.
Let's get talking and you never know if all the clubs stood shoulder to shoulder in this then just maybe we can bring back the days of promotion-relegation.
I will post the article shortly for those that haven't seen it yet.'" please do

| I would support that. Although we would be one of the clubs at risk of relegation, to have a fair shout at getting back up again is all that I would ask. Every club deserves their day in the spotlight.
I'm not sure I agree with the play-off, however, as it would kill the Championship grand final, as all you have earned is the chance of another chance. Bottom goes down. Grand Final winner comes up. End of.

| I think we all would go for that scenario,
remember when Wigan was in the relegation mix and then conned they way back up to safety that's the reason for the shut out franchise deal that is in place now, to protect the richer clubs.
the problem is they have already damaged the game now how long would it take for it to recover

| It starts out sounding rather self-aggrandizing, but goes on to make quite a bit of sense.
Interesting to see someone confirm that the RFL were fully aware of the Crusaders financial position for a long time prior to them announcing they were pulling out; it could be argued that our last minute scramble to sign players and a coach for this season could easily have been avoided, if the RFL had been more honest about that situation.
Yet another call for a reduction to 12 teams in SL is a worry, as we'd almost certainly be for the chop; if it were to gain momentum though, it might trigger some meaningful discussions around a merger, as that would be just about the only surefire way to make ourselves and Cas safe.

Not necessarily, the bottom 2 at the end of a given season could be relegated. You know that bizarre concept of on pitch performance determining your fate

Which is why it won't happen, as it would likely result in London and Widnes being relegated.
If SL was to be reduced in size, membership would be by invitation only.

| We need to put the natural selection back into our game.
Promotion/relegation- 2 up, 2 down.
How hard does it have to be? Although not tampering with a format every other season may help. Promotion relegation had over a century of history & proven success. Franchising keeps clubs on life support IMO.

| Franchises were brought in to raise standards and to encourage clubs not to panic buy overseas players for the quick fix and have time to encourage young player development in the 3 year franchise period.
Has that happened?

Resoundingly no. We are as far from Australia and NZ as we have ever been and most clubs' overseas players are of the 2nd class variety, not good enough for their league. I always thought that condemning championship clubs to the lower leagues in perpituity would lead to a fall in youth interest in those areas and I wonder if that is happening now. Anyway, whatever that arguement, a sport has to be fair and franchising if patently unfair and brings our game into disrepute in the eyes of those outside it.

No, because clubs can't be trusted not to sign a load of sub-par imports rather than give kids a go. When they moan about getting no sponsorship money from Stobart, you know it'd have been spent on more of the same.
