Melbourne Storm stripped of two premierships for salary cap breach
April 22, 2010 .Melbourne Storm have been stripped of two NRL premierships and fined a total of $1.6 million after being found guilty of long-term salary cap breaches.
NRL chief executive David Gallop announced they would also not be allowed to accrue any premiership points in the 2010 season.

Come on Wigan found a loop hole regarding the Salary Cap, the Melbourne case was pure deceit.
Now with no automatic relegation if a SL club was ever found to have cheated on this scale then I imagine they would be as severely punished. |

They have been at it 5 years and spent an extra £1m over the cap on players salaries in that time.
They didn't find out because it was a very sophisticated third party payment system involving two sets of accounts. But as with most fraud, they did find out in the end and that is all that matters.
This is not over, expect long term or even permanent player suspensions, tax and criminal investigations. Also, expect one or two people to be doing some 'bird' over this as well. |
