Just wondering if I could count on your help?
Basically I'm a 3rd year student studying Sports Journalism and need help with my final project.
I'm producing a super league preview magazine and am hoping to use Q and As with fans from each club as part of it.
Most on my course are doing generic sports such as football so I'm hoping I can use mine as something a little bit different, using my passion of Rugby League.
I was just wondering if any of you could help answer the following questions:

Name:

1 - How did you rate your side's 2009 performance?
2 - Who are the key players for you?
3 - Young star to watch?
4 - Player you would most like to get rid of?
5 - What's the opinion of John Kear?
6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year?
7 - Who is your most hated opposition player and why?
8 - Have you been happy with your transfer activity for 2010?
9 - You have been stuck in a similar position for a while now, can Wakefield ever challenge for silverware?
10 - Season prediction? eg where will you finish and how do you think you will perform?

Much appreciated guys.
If you want to e-mail me for any queries or even if you want to answer via e-mail, don't hesitate to contact me at gfarrimond@uclan.ac.uk

Thank you very much and good luck in 2010! icon_smile.gif

1 - How did you rate your side's 2009 performance?
Great - more of the same please!
2 - Who are the key players for you?
Tronc, Morrison, Brough
3 - Young star to watch?
Morton
4 - Player you would most like to get rid of?
None spring to mind
5 - What's the opinion of John Kear?
One of the best coaches in the game, saviour of Trinity and an all round top bloke to boot.
6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year?
Cas away - love beating them in their own back yard
7 - Who is your most hated opposition player and why?
Danny Sculthorpe - because he is a beer swilling waste of space who disrespected his colleagues, coach and fans on more than one occasion out of pure immaturity.
8 - Have you been happy with your transfer activity for 2010?
Yes - recruited well, and kept hold of key players, while offloading a fair amount of deadwood
9 - You have been stuck in a similar position for a while now, can Wakefield ever challenge for silverware?
I don't see why not, especially if we get a new stadium and the turnover increases to allow us to spend the full cap, (or at least close to)
10 - Season prediction? eg where will you finish and how do you think you will perform?
5th - beat the teams weaker than us, a few of the ones on a similar level, and hopefully snatch a win or 2 from the big boys.

The King in whom we trust. Don't believe him to be the shrewdest tactically but the best motivator in SL.
6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year?
Cas away

Hate is too strong a word, but I have an irrational dislike of Keef Senior

1 - How did you rate your side's 2009 performance?
Superb season which came to an unfortunate end

2 - Who are the key players for you?
Tronc, Brough, Morrision

3 - Young star to watch?
Murphy, Morton, George & Ferguson

4 - Player you would most like to get rid of?
None

5 - What's the opinion of John Kear?
A very gifted coach, who manages to get the best out of players.

6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year?
Leeds @ Headingly, mainly due to pre and post match drinking

7 - Who is your most hated opposition player and why?
Danny Sculthorpe, tried to blame the club for his indiscretions and continued to lsate the club in the press rather than admit fault for his actions.

8 - Have you been happy with your transfer activity for 2010?
Very much so, we've placed the faith in our youth to support our first team. But the purchases of experienced pro's such as Morrision, Tronc and Newton can only be good for the development of our youth.

9 - You have been stuck in a similar position for a while now, can Wakefield ever challenge for silverware?
Under John Kear we have steadily improved year on year and he seems to be building a team which is capable of finishing within the top 6 again and challenge for the cup. I see no reason why we can't challenge the top teams again.

10 - Season prediction? eg where will you finish and how do you think you will perform?
If i'm forced to pick a position i'd say 6th in the league. As for the cup well we're good enough to beat anyone so possible success? Our season will depend upon injuries. We have a big pack but a couple of injuries to key men can change alot.

1 - How did you rate your side's 2009 performance? Fabulous, best season and most enjoyable since I started following around 1983/4. Disappointing finish though losing so poorly in the play offs.
2 - Who are the key players for you? So many this season, Brough, Jeffries, Tronc, Millard, Morrison.
3 - Young star to watch? Murphy, Morton and George (think will link well with Millard).
4 - Player you would most like to get rid of? Have yet to see King deliver, he is still on probation in my view.
5 - What's the opinion of John Kear? Best coach I have ever seen at Wakefield, brings the best out of players and helps a financially strapped club compete with the big boys.
6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year? The next one, always excited to go to a match.
7 - Who is your most hated opposition player and why? Don't hate anyone. Have a dislike of Sculthorpe because of his attitude to the club and never been fond of Keith Senior.
8 - Have you been happy with your transfer activity for 2010? Delighted, I think we have really added some quality and leadership on the pitch. Some real die hards now who just need to gel and work on defence.
9 - You have been stuck in a similar position for a while now, can Wakefield ever challenge for silverware? Short term the Challenge Cup is a real potential. If we can keep Kear then maybe challenge for a Grand Final in 5 years.
10 - Season prediction? eg where will you finish and how do you think you will perform? Top 6 at least.

1 - How did you rate your side's 2009 performance?
I missed a number games due to being at uni but followed on the radio and TV save for Easter and Summer breaks so I can't comment as well as some but we played very well to finish where we did and overcame some of the greatest adversities and tragedies in the club's history. An extremely successful year, save for a disappointing exit in the playoffs.

2 - Who are the key players for you?
Everyone. Wakefield play as a team and our depth of cover is just as important as the "starring roles" of players such as Brough. Tronc and Morrison bring quality to the pack, we have a lot of attacking options with Jeffries, Brough, Obst, Newton and Latu and we have some great youngsters coming through the ranks.

3 - Young star to watch?
Morton seems to be making a mark, but if George gets a consistent run he'll be bagging a lot of tries.

4 - Player you would most like to get rid of?
He's already gone. Nobody at present, but perhaps Bibb if you forced my arm because he doesn't seem to want to bust a gut in a Trinity shirt. Too bad. I would have said Hendo once upon a time but he's been proving me wrong for the last year or so by playing consistently well.

5 - What's the opinion of John Kear?
The perfect coach for a team like Wakefield and long may his reign continue.

6 - Which game are you most looking forward to this year?
Our Grand Final appearance icon_wink.gif

7 - Who is your most hated opposition player and why?
Has to be Sculthorpe because of his immaturity and inability to accept responsibilities as a professional sportsman. I don't spare him much thought any more but I hope he gets some banter from the stands this season, just to wind him up.

8 - Have you been happy with your transfer activity for 2010?
Very, save for the loss of Stosic. Millard, Tronc, Morrison and Jeffries give us a new look quota that offers some quality in a lot of areas. Newton brings experience and hopefully a fresh start will give him a boost. Pity he's taken a knock or two already. Hopefully King will prove his worth and Johnson will not get injured every week! We'll miss the utility value of Grix. However, he was a jack of all trades and a master of none. Drew gave us some good performances but his best years are behind him now. Rooney sadly wasn't up for SL anymore IMO. I honestly think it's a shame Bibey stepped down from SL rugby because he played well last year. And Stosic was a machine, his ability to find the floor quickly as well as gobble up everything in defence will be missed.

9 - You have been stuck in a similar position for a while now, can Wakefield ever challenge for silverware?
Has to be a cup run for now but I think we have the coach and the promise for the future to be up there in SL in a few years time. It all hinges on the stadium.

10 - Season prediction? eg where will you finish and how do you think you will perform?
As a new look team, I think we'll perform solidly and improve over the course of the year though we may find ourselves a prop and a second row short at times if injuries are unkind. We seem to have a lot more options in a smaller squad this year and shouldn't be easy to beat at any point. A lot of teams look stronger this year than last but so do we. Taking that into consideration, I think we'll finish 6th.

Sorry mate; I would have willingly helped you with this but, quite frankly, you have not researched your subject before posting. Wakefield have not been stuck in any position for years. In the last ten years, for example, we have gone from perennial strugglers to Superleague semi-finalists, then relegation certainties to cup semi-finalists and comfortable play-off contenders again. Who knows what this season will bring, but we are far from being 'stuck in a similar position'. We have challenged for silverware on at least 3 occasions recently and hopefully will continue to do so.
