As from the 2010 season, the Reserve grade and the U18 academy teams are being abolished and replaced with an U21 academy. I guess that Gary Thornton was suplus to requirements as we will only have 1 reserve team instead of 2, and that the U18 coaches (Richard Tunningley and Glen Morrison from next season) will be coaching the U21's.
This could also be one of the reasons why we are reducing the senior playing roster for next year and filling out the squad with academy players, as any fringe first team squad players will have fewer opportunities to keep their match fitness in the reserves!
