Don't mind the idea of a trip to Workington, it's the trip to Fev I'm not looking forward to.

Your time in SL will be over.
Some of you who have sniped at fans of teams below SL over the past 12 years will suddenly be faced with having to accept life down here in the championship or hawk theirselves off to Leeds/Cas etc!

Time will tell; personally, I'm not totally against a few years of decent, honest, championship rugby - the problem is that we've tied ourselves in knots to such an extent trying to satisfy the RFL's demands that even if the championship is the future for us, we've nowhere to play. Our club appears to have adopted a '5h1t or bust' approach to this round of SL franchises and at this point in time, it looks llike the latter.

| Ok... I'm getting really confused by a lot of folk on RLFans... and now this article
See, I was under the impression that Cas were no more further along than us. We don't have the full PP yet, but neither does Cas. Admittedly they shouldn't have the same problems we do in getting it, but they haven't got the funding for it, whereas we have the money for our stadium. Cas have spent the past few years chopping and changing their plans due to the fact that they haven't got the money, whereas Wakey seemed to find the Newmarket project a bit more staright forward even though its not next to the "Second most visited tourist attraction in the country". Wakefield might have hit a serious stumbling block, but we have options available to us and if done well could be of massive benefit to us and the game, whereas Cas could still be playing in their old stadium in 2012.
I know Wakey aren't the best run club in the league, but are Cas or any other clubs really any better?
Despite all this it seems that everyone is convinced that we're dead in the water. Just baffling really.

No, the demise of Wakefield RFC was down to money. Not enough people from this city, the one people on here are crowing about a lack of professional sport in, would pay to watch them, coupled with the fact that when union went professional, most teams outside the top flight couldn't compete to get promoted and earn the riches in the Premiership. Didn't see many people at that last game when it was all but known that should they have lost, they'd go out of business.
Fact remains, people in the city couldn't give a toss, because the majority support football teams without a WF postcode, not the rugby league team bearing the name of the city.

It is my personal opinion that Richard Wright is the twin brother of Alistair Campbell when it comes to spin.
I am waiting to see if his latest deadline of submitting it before Christmas comes and goes without any further movement.'"
Why then say that Cas don't have the funds, if you don't know. Same here, I don't know, but then again I don't claim too. Things have moved slowly and RW has come in for some stick, but I would rather get it right and it take a bit longer. He's stuck his neck out and said that FPP should be in before Xmas (he's got a week to do this). He has opened himself/ the club for the brown stuff to hit the fan if it doesn't go in, but I am confident that this will happen. Also the small fact of a worldwide recession didn't help!!

WHAT???????? Cas have always (ALWAYS) planned to have a stadium at Glasshoughton, where has Wakefield have looked at any piece of spare land that may be suitable (Thornes spring to mind). The only thing that has changed, is the fact that the stadium may have to be part built due to a funding gap. Bear in mind that this was before the 'Exclusion zone' was lifted from the old Hickson's site and the £2m funding from WMDC. Of course, all Cas fans would like the stadium to be built and completed in one go, but would accept it if part building had to be done to satisfy the powers that be. Now I have said before that I don't know if we have the funds, but then again the club haven't said they don't. NW was always going to be an issue with part LCC ownership and the complaints from residents. GH is ready to basically have a stadium build on it and the transport infastructure is in place (i.e. Railway and road).

Proved right or wrong is not the point.
You claimed when you went down -- you just got on with it,which you clearly didnt.
Your fans bitched and still do about Wigan and the overspending.
Your club some 9 month after relegation was still seeking legal advise.
So i dont see how you can justify your claim, that you just got on with it.

| Jeez where do people get the energy from to bitch and snipe at each other like this. Sure the conduct of some fans from both clubs on occasions is poor and lacking in class. But both our clubs and fans share so much in common that we deserve to give one another and ourselves more respect. Ignore those who feel the need to score points and bitch and 'win the one upmanship'. As a life long Trinity fan I have a shed loads of friends who are cas fans, I take no delight what so ever in their misfortune but I am pleased for them for their success. I wish them every success with their stadium plans - their passion for their club is just as important to them as ours is to us.
Its a false situation to pitch them against us for a franchise - it turns our friends and neighbours into foes. The reality is that the problem here is with the Super League grand plan - like it or not our higher ups bought into it.
There are clubs with a similarly proud tradition to our own in the lower leagues, if they can enjoy their RL there I see no reason at all, should it come to that, why we can not.

Ignoring the minor issue of where we'd actually play, that's a very good point. Plenty of clubs with plenty of history in the lower leagues, and plenty of supporters dreaming of better days to come too.

Fair point I suppose, can't argue with that. The point I was making or trying, is that it cleared out some dead wood and helped taking a step back before taking two forward. I appreciate it was easier to get back in as if you won the GF it was easier to get promoted (to a degree - Hunslet for example). For what it's worth I do not want to get a license at another clubs expense, certainly not Wakefields'. At least when it was R & P, it was simply down to who was the better team on the day and the season (which was Wakefield on this occasion). On the side of bitching, I still stick to the fact that if our game against Salford was on Sky we would have won, as we had 2 perfectly good tries disallowed!!! But that's another story.
