He won’t and he isn’t sorry but Dave has far more in his locker. That said I’d take Watts any day of the year, now that would be a front row.

Thing with Watts is that you're always waiting for the next brain fart, like the stupid block that cost you victory over Leeds. Get that under control and he's nearly as good as the Big Bopper.

Quote: vastman "No it not the measure but it is imo the key to being a legend. When sport is played for fun it’s not the winning but the taking part that counts, no argument from me. Pro RL or any pro sport is not played for fun, it may be fun playing it and it’s certainly more fun than emptying bins or at least it should be but they are not the same thing.

There is only one logic in pro sport and that is success - anything less is not necessarily failure but it is not success, at this level it simply can’t be considered as such - harsh? Yes but that’s how it works.

Hence a legend in the pro game has to also be a winner which means being in a winning team and we haven’t had one of those for fifty years. My opinion.'"

(Edited.... That's not needed Musson - PopTart)

It's a good job your logic only makes sense to you and no one else

Wally Lewis was a legend,
Infact he is 'the' legend of our sport

He was also a legend of our club

JD is a legend of our club also
There are others I would include on that list

Deary me I'm embarrassed for you, go see a shrink and stop derailing threads. The fact that you think you speak for the majority is utterly hilarious. Again, seek help.

That's a well reasoned analysis but not something |I can necessarily agree with. There are several former Leeds players walking around with Premiership rings in every finger but would never be a "legend". In fact many have never risen above the ordinary but happened to be in the right place at the right time.

To win silverware in this game teams have to put together a winning sequence of 4 games to collect a trophy. A lot more difficult than it sounds and a great deal of heroic effort has to go into getting the teams into a place where they can tilt for the title.

The term "legendary" infers an almost mythical/ mystical memory of almost superhuman proportion. Surely it is what they do rather than the outcome that matters. Possibly greater legendary status is invoked on those performing heroic deeds against overwhelming odds.

By my criteria, I've seen a few legends at Belle Vue.
Neil Fox, an absolute phenomenon in any age.
David Topliss, amazing ability to make a difference and change a game in seconds
Bill Ashurst, only played on one leg for us but just a different class
Ray Price, absolutely immense presence who set such a high standard for his team.

I also think that you can't be a legend whilst still playing.

Frankly its nice just not to be called thick icon_lol.gif

As I say its just opinion - in my own mind I am a legend but its not an opinion that seems to have spread a014.gif

Once again you stumble over your own lack of intelligence

You are trying to ram your thoughts on what a legend is or isn't down all of our throats

I have merely stated that Wally Lewis is former Wakefield player who is the biggest legend of all time which doesn't go along with your 'what is a legend theory'

I assume by your lack of answering me you are sticking to your guns and you think Wally Lewis doesn't fall in to what you deem to be a RL legend?

Lmao

Who are you Frank Machin? This is a forum, you do know what that is don't you?

Much as I'm loathed to indulge a dullard such as yourself, when did I say Lewis wasn't a RL legend? He fits all the criteria especially to be one having won a test series.

I have to say it takes a monumental lack of intelligence to accuse someone of being thick only to prove in your next post just how thick you actually are, well done and thanks for doing my job for me eusa_clap.gif eusa_clap.gif eusa_clap.gif

Legend - famous, renowned, notorious

You have your views to which you're entitled as are all of us, unfortunately you present your views as facts without providing any supporting evidence to back up the view Your last concluding sentence is presented as a proven fact and its your opinion, unless you can argue the case and provide supporting evidence.

Your opening sentence states professional sport is not played for fun on what do you base that claim or are you assumming that when its 'paid work' it can't be fun. How many sporting professionals have you interviewed before coming to your conclusions
.

Legend Famous Neil Fox for obvious reasons

Legend Renowned Ian Fortis tubbiest winger I ever saw (Doncaster RL at Tattersfield)

Legend Notorious Zak Hardaker for his off field antics

We all have our legends and some are legends to many but it is not based on a clear cut definition, they just are because people believe they are.

Should you wish to respond in your usual aggressive and name calling manner try and be a little more imaginitive with the name calling.

Vastman appears to show all the signs of an insecure individual, his need to lash out, name call and be abusive when challenged rather than provide a reasoned response, classic behaviour for those that are familiar with Eric Bernes work

Definition of legendary " Remarkable enough to be famous, very well known. Synonyms ~ Famous, Famed, Renowned, Acclaimed, Illustrious, Esteemed,Honoured, Exhalted, Lauded, Lionized, Distinguished,Great, Outstanding.
i think you could apply one or two or even more of these words to all the players mentioned so far on this column.

Dictionary Legend: an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field.
"the man was a living legend"
synonyms: celebrity, star, superstar, icon, famous person, great, genius, phenomenon, luminary, giant, big name

In it's purest sense I would think (IMHO) that those who gained this accolade via Wakefield Trinity during my time watching them are Neil Fox, Rocky Turner and Dave Topliss. I am also aware of Johnty Parkin. Ray Price and Wally Lewis gained the tick elsewhere.
I'm sure all of these are held in very high esteem by many other general Rugby League fans just like we know Clive Sullivan and Billy Boston were/are Legends.

Jason Demetriou possibly "heroic" status with Fifita heading that way.

Johny T a loyal servant.

Quote: Wollo-Wollo-Wollo-Wayoo "Dictionary Legend

It's subjective but yours seems a fair enough explanation.

Funny thing is I doubt many RL players especially the likes of JT would consider themselves legends for one second, there modesty is far to legendary for that.
