| We've got Brighouse Rangers at home - played them twice this season, lost one, drew one; should be a cracker.

| Quote braytontiger="braytontiger"No need for any side to drop out of group 1 but let's bring at least 2 maybe even 4 teams up and then we will have a proper league, yes the to 2 from group 2 beat the bottom 2 from group 1 narrowly in a one off cup game its hardly evidence to cast aside two teams who for the majority have competed reasonably well but towards the end of season have probably lost a little confidence.
Has for the cup unless they meet the 13s final will be a repeat of last year and again it would be a cracking final.'"
don't agree with 4 teams up i think some games would be very lopsided thus leading to disheartened players and parents leaving making teams weaker and a viscus cycle of doom .

Stanley only lost by 2 points didn't they? Hardly 'far better'. If the division were larger then it would create even competition and also a challenge to further develop. The teams who dominate aren't doing anything spectacular, they're sometimes physically looking 1 or 2 years older, and this can change very quickly.'"
RE to Panthers change of coach with old connections if Stanley got relegated if they bring it in maybe some players may see a move as an attractive option . A coach they know well and 1st division rugby although to be fair A Stanley team would of course make for a very attractive Div2 but beware Eastmoor expected a easy season I think.

Firstly congratulations to crigglestone clearly the best side over the year and deserving winners of the league.
Has for the rest I'm not sure what your going on about tbh,has with any side there will always be changes it's the nature of any team sport.
It's going to be a long time between now and march and I still believe the way the leagues have been set up means that players are going to be out of the game for 4 months just 6 weeks after having a 2 month break, more teams in the league is the obvious answer to me.lets just hope all the players
Return after the break and hope they haven't gone and found something better to do!!!

| saw cross 10s finished losing their current winning streak going down by 4 pts to a very good oulton side at shaw cross an exact verse of the score only a few weeks ago .
some very good teams in the 10s going forth into the 11s and i expect another exciting season for the lads . just wish they had something to play for .
After what seems an eternity of rugby we are now faced with what we didn't face up to last year the inevitable a long break with no rugby .
Lets hope that we don't lose too many to the dark side (soccer) or even worse that game i cannot type .....but then again I can see a fee playing a season of U@~#N and coming back . Some however will be lost to us maybe unless clubs keep busy.
I mentioned this some time ago the tradition of summer galas to move to february maybe its time for a change , lets face it the amount of time off in Aug for Galas and hardly any were put in for (sure referes society wakefield/castleford/batley/dewsbury).
great preseason warm ups and recruitment for clubs plus fund raising.
Yes all teams used to play in february a year or two ago so no problem there, these could be run like the old co-ops but hopefully in a more professional manner.

Just out of interest Mutley Cat, what reason wouldn't you let your child play union in the winter?
At Castleford Rugby Union we have most age groups from tags ( under 6 ) to colts ( under 17) in boys and a good mix of girls ages. The majority of teams are made up of a mix of players about 40% who are pure union players and the rest are players who play both league and Union. The under 15's has a mix of district union players and also Super League Scholarship players. The 17's have recently been boosted by players who didn't get signed after a couple of years playing scholarship, and the open age 1st, 2nd, 3rd team and veterans team is made up of a mix of league and union players.
I understand that Union is not everyones cup of tea to watch, and the bulk of the lads at Cas do not watch any union either live or on TV, however most have season tickets at either Cas, Wakey, Fev or Leeds. Once they learn the basics there is no stopping them, we feel that they also benefit from playing both codes in terms of strength and ball handling.
When our season ends a large number will go back to league, a few under 15's are going to give American Football a try with the Yorkshire Rams, unfortunately they play in the middle of the league season so no help to the league players.
Please don't discount Union as a winter alternative, plenty of teams around like Cas who would welcome any new players, like Sandal, Morley, Goole, Corinthians and many more. We train Wednesday nights all ages except under 17's who train Tuesday and Thursday.
We are also looking for a League team who would be able to tke an influx of under 15's when the summer season starts, they are a good standard and as they didn't play this last season all are free agents.
If anyone wants any info please pm me

Cas rugby union seams to be really taking off with many rl players giving it a go,I must say it is something that I would never before considered but no competitive rl while march and then you start to see the attraction.

| They also learn some different skills.
Played them both as an adult and enjoyed my time in both.
I would recommend any youngster to give it a try, it's usually coaches that aren't keen because they risk losing kids to another club/code.
Equally died in the wool RL parents can be off putting.

We hit a bit of a milestone today, every age group played at home and all 5 pitches got used, + we had 3 games of tag going on down the side of the main pitches. If you have a child who plays bring them down Wednesday about 6.10 and ask anyone in the clubhouse for the correct coach and they will point you in the right direction.
If they are backs they pick it up within a session or 2, the forwards take a few more sessions. The ethos is all around developing the players so no pressure to pick it all up instantly.

Kinleycat very well put, this really is the case that it is the parents and coaches who aren't keen, the parents as they don't like/understand union and the coaches for fear of loosing players. We have examples of clubs and age groups working brilliantly together, the Union lads who don't play league then go and have a try in the Union off season and bolster the league numbers. All ages below seniors play on Sundays.
Also if any of the parents want a run out we have 3 senior teams and a veterans team so we have a level for everyone.

| Not sure its always the parents that influence kids in what they participate in, take my lad for instance I have asked on a number of times if he'd like to play union or football to gain more fitness but has snubbed both.
Union because it doesn't appeal to him when he has played it at school and football was always played at the same time as rugby league.
He has proven to like other games like badminton and tennis so may see if that may appeal to him.

Tried that with our local RU club and were roundly snubbed - seems like there's just as much politics in jr RU as there is in RL.
Oh well - we're keeping our lads fit and busy over the off-season with a programme of multi-sports activities; they're doing weight training, running and martial arts for starters, with a couple more things still to be confirmed.

Spent three years down at Sandal and I thought the junior set up right through to the colts was far better there than any junior RL set up I have ever seen.
Without question there are one or two Rupert's involved but the lads and especially the veterans players were all spot on and hold RL in high regard, I've seen many at Wakey games.
I would encourage my little one to play both in order to learn different skills and give him two options to pursue if he enjoyed both.

I'm surprised Bren if you mean Sandal RU, it's not too long ago Stanley Rangers were training down there, and I know of a few kids asked if they were interested in having a go.

You are correct, always was a shame we couldn't get Lewis down for a few games, we could do with the height in the line out.
I know what you mean about breaks, I think if you have lads like the Stanley lot who are competing at the highest level week in week out, then club and scholarship training it can be overkill. It is really down to the parents, coaches and players to take responsibility. And also the schools with the timings of games.

Real shame you had a bad experience, I can assure you that you would have been welcome at Cas. RU is the same as RL some clubs are elitist and others more welcoming. A real shame you didn't try us first as your age group is the one we don't have, if you ever fancy coming down to the club for a chat with our DOR ( I think you know him) you would be more than welcome. Apart from the Yorkshire Cup and Plate we only play friendlies until under 17 so still plenty of time for us to arrange a few games against similar experience teams to keep you going through winter.

Reading between the lines i presume you didn't feel welcome, ( hope it wasn't just the kids names that put you off) it would have been different at Cas, the bulk of our kids are local comp kids from Cas, Ponte, Garforth, Outwood, Kippax, Rothwell and surrounding areas

| Ok so in the final game in the 11s(12s) barla cup Cas Panthers 16 West Bowling 14 the game hinged on a last min try from bowling but sadly the conversion was missed. In a game that saw the lead swing both ways panthers just came out on top winning the battle in the forwards on a very cold damp day in the Ragland.
Both teams showed grit in what turned into a tense affair rather than a spectacle of flowing rugby. Panther mostly cancelled out bowlings giant and bowlings defence stopped the Panthers getting the ball wide.
Another credit to West Yorkshire junior rl and prob the best team on the day go on to face Normanton in the quarters ! Just !

yep at just under 6'2" and tipping nearly 91 kg for a 15yr old is some size he does stand out a bit.
