Quote: pyeman "I agree the council should do everything they can to support both clubs (fev too for that matter).

On the other forum (nice to know you all pop by) people are in the main annoyed that the council funded wakefields planning fees but did not do the same for cas, but i dont really want to get into all that as it will just start another row and we have enough of those about stadiums as it is.'"

That was all connected to the body putting the proposals forward. Although our commercial developer Yorkcourt has been co-ordinating the plans, this was on behalf of our Community Trust. The council can support a trust such as this. The Cas plans were submitted on behalf of CT RLFC - which cannot be directly funded by the council.

Ultimately the same offer of financial assistance is available to both clubs, it's just a question of unlocking it!

Is there any truth in the rumour that yorkcourt will own the stadium and trinity will have it on a 99 year lease? And that the proposed tenancy agreement between WDCT and "Sprit of 1873 ltd gives the sole use for the stadium for the use of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats?

Wakefield will be the anchor tennant - that does not suggest that they will be the only tennant. It would be short sighted to only allow one body in there and not something I would be keen to support at all.

Quote: Gronk! "Then surely in the interest of balance the council should give Cas the same guarantees and pay the same fees they have done for Wakefield?'"

Yes they should and I think everybody would be happy to see it so, but see TRB's post above. If the person in charge of your stadium bid hasn't got the knowledge or desire, or won't pay someone who has, to be able to set up the correct pathway so that funding can be received then its hardly either Wakefields or the councils fault is it? Maybe you should put the question to your CEO as to why he didn't want to delegate some of his powers.

Indeed - someone at Cas seems to think that suddenly sticking the word 'Community' into their description of the proposed stadium at GH makes it the same as ours; it certainly doesn't. Therefore, it isn't the case that the Council are [iunwilling[/i to assist - they legally unable to do so, given that the appropriate legal entity has not been set up.

For the purposes of the inquiry Wakefield are the sole uses of the stadium as they are the only ones signed up and agreed to a lease to use it. This doesn't mean they will be the only ones as time progresses that use it, just there are currently no written agreements in place. I imagine that other teams are interested and even held talks but wouldn't want to serve notice of quitting their current homes before thay are sure the ground will get built.

I should clarify that I do not want to see Cas in there.

Cas should be in their own facility at GH.

Could you clarify a point for me and this is purely hypothetical.

Given the use of the term community stadium I am of the assumption that any local team could apply to play at the ground – fixtures and relevant usage fees permitting.

If that is the case and given that it is by the trusts own admission a community stadium then Castleford tigers would be eligible to play in the stadium if they so wished at the same annual cost as the anchor tenants i.e. WTW (If preferential fees are given to one club over the other then surely its not a community stadia)

The reason I ask is given the economic climate it would make so much sense for just one stadium to be built. It would cost less in terms of building the thing (obviously) but also if the stadium was simply a community stadium and therefore in essence a not for profit organisation – with the fees used to maintain the stadium and fund local sports programmes etc - then the fees for both clubs of using it would be significantly reduced.

The community benefits as would both clubs as both would have additional cash to build their respective clubs.

Maybe I am looking at it too simply but it’s about time the council banged a number of heads together and saw sense.

If Inter and AC Milan can come to an arrangements then I am sure Cas Tigers and WTW can do.

Just to clarify this, it is unlawful for a Council to give any money to a commercial Ltd company, like Castleford Tigers Ltd (not sure of the exact company name) or Spirit of 1873 Ltd, and the only way that the council could help Castleford Tigers out is by them forming a 'trust' company. Wakefield MDC have indeed offered the same help to Castleford as was provided to the Stadium Community Trust... all they need to do is set up a trust. They will also have to do this if they intend to make use of the £2m of land asset that WMDC have offered both clubs for loan guarantees.

This is a question for your CEO, who may have good reason at this time for not accessing this money, but that is not Wakefield MDC or Wakefield Trinity's fault!

The short answer is that Castleford, to date, would like to own and operate their own stadium in Castleford and in many ways, I understand why they would like to do just that.

I think you are massively over-simplifying the economics of the situation but in theory, CT should be able to apply for a tenancy at NM.

For the record, I think that's what will happen; we're in the fight of our lives to get one stadium built in the district in the next two years - anyone who thinks that we'll get two is, in my opinion, living in cloud cuckoo land.

Well one thing we can pretty much guarantee is that we'll know once and for all if that will be Newmarket in about four months time.
