If they were negotiating I think the player or their agent would say sorry I have or he has signed elsewhere don’t you think. I am sure you will be able to explain why this would not be the case.

Well that's not a good negotiation is it?
The agent will work both sides to get the best deal and then decide.
They won't tell the other side what they are doing. Seems a bit obvious to explain.
