I have followed the ford for long enough really. I will still always hope they win, but I can't be bothered with the "well we are looking much stronger this year" tripe every season.
I think both our clubs dream of glory but it won't happen in our lifetimes.
If anyone can tell me that the Super League product is better than NRL then fire away...
Ultimately mate, cas have had £84 out of me this year and a ton of my money means more to me than a bog standard leave of rugby league.
Sadly it's taken me until I've spent it to realise this.
The money I spend goes on the wrong things. They club won't exist fairly son because we have been over-frivelous with money. For a long time we have been punching far above our weight, and the time is quickly approaching where it's no longer possible.
Over the years I have put a lot of my money into both Castleford AND wakefield (when Cas are away) and what have I been paying for????? Wakefield went bust and had to re-open and cas are going the same way. Whoever has been in receipt of my money has just wasted it, and they are not deserving of another penny from me.
Especially when I can pay £2 and watch a decent normanton team'"
Okey Dokey I will keep battling away at Trin and hope for the best.. WTID

| We need to be on top of the forward battle as the conditions will be better for Cas than Wakey. As we all know we arnt a bad side when the ground is dry but at the moment the grounds being as they are we cant play the game that we are best with.If we take all the steam out of the pack then we will go well as the forwards have proven they can match any pack as they did against Hudds and Catalan.

| Quote: DAVE@CAS1990 "doesn't matter who wins to me for the following reasons- it's a meaningless game as neither side have any depth to compete for silverware
- it's not the NRL (or even NEARLY in the same league, so I will be watching that)
- Cas are useless and I think they'll drag wakefield down (not very far it ahs to be said) to our level
- it's not worth £21
- it'll mean I have to avoid both the Cas and Wakefield forums for the one-eyed drivel that will be spouted
- I'd rather have bragging rights about trophies, not a very rare win.
- it's the lowest profile derby in Super League
- it's just not top level rugby'"
These are by far your best point, tbh the rest just sounds bitter.
It's not depth it is the will, especially where the CCup is concerned. Too many mercenary Aussie and non local players in both teams who simply don't get the romance of it. The cup was always the best chance for clubs like ours to compete and now it's just become an away day for some clubs and a can't be bothered game for others. Wakefields history in the CCup through the SL era has been an utter disgrace. Now the CCup has been diluted by our desire to ape all things Austraian and it would seem no one can be bothered any more, teams seem to stumble to the final now..
Not sure why it ranks as low as it does in the eyes of the media - I do think it matters to a lot of Cas and Wakey fans - some deluded people from both camps try to pretend Leeds is the big one but it isn't, sadly that's almost giant killing these days.

| I get what you're saying Vasty - and maybe it purely is bitterness... I don't see how though, with relegation gone and the play off system too long winded to give either of us (who MAY finish 8th) a chance, it is an important game other than being able to go "harar we won we won" ...i've never been one to class "bragging rights" as which of our teams are the least poor on one given afternoon.
but I totally agree - every single one of our foreign imports are either past their best or have failed to make it in Aus. and Aussies (for whatever reason) just don't get that fans thrive on the history of the CC
Chase - didn't make it
Smith - didn't make it
Poore - past his best
Millington - didn't make it
the list goes on - but all culminating in my reasoning that we are two below average teams playing for very little. Our only concern is existing as clubs. It's like two galapagos turtles going into battle...

Absolute codswallop!
There are some great players on both sides who would fayre well in many a side over the years. Chase and Smith are excellent players and Poore is definitely worth his place. There are plenty of good / creative players - maybe more so in the wakey side just now, but that doesn't mean anything on derby day.
Get your head out of your arris and get down on Friday and support your boys efforts and support your club. They will never improve if you don't get behind them!

I'm not convinced by this. The aussies post match interviews after the cup always seem to be gushing about the cup. Hardly scientific, but I think Sky's derision of the competition for the past 20 years has more to do with it. They bang on about Superleague like it's the only thing in the world - forgetting internationals, championship, NLs etc.
Our record since 1999 when we were admitted to Superleague is nothing to shout about, but at least we have made a semi final during the time since then, which is better than in any year since 1979.

| I wouldn't say Poore is past his best at all, he's sill only 28. He had a bad injury that knocked him off his game for quite a while but past it is not right.
As for Smith not making it, good because then we wouldn't have the privileged of watching him play here.
We've also got Aiton & Collis who imo are both class.
Also if you can't be bothered 'which of our teams are the least poor on one given afternoon' I'd knock it on the head mate, can't get my head around that.

| I can understand a Cas fan feeling like that at the mo - they seem to be lurching towards the same situation we were in a couple of seasons ago, which will dampen the ardour of even the most diehard fans.
Personally, I like the feisty nature of this fixture and for me, it exists as a standalone piece of entertainment; I don't particularly worry about the context in terms of league position or whether the Aussie players understand quite how much the two clubs dislike each other. It is possible to over-think these things.

Yeah - and we're still here! He just needs a gentle reminder to look up instead of down - they have the nucleus of a decent side there and can compete with most sides on their day - beating Leeds and nearly downing Wigan.
Fed up of people talking our game down - its fantastic - and if we don't like it then why should we expect anyone else to!

| The fact that this fixture is played for the Adam Watene memorial trophy is enough for me, no matter where either club sits in the league at the point in time that it is played.
I guess we don't actually now have anyone left who played with Adam so to the players it might not mean as much but for me it is always a chance to remember the big man. RIP Adam.

Wilkes will have player with Watene in his first stint at the club.
