I used to look forward to getting the wakefield express on a friday morning to read on the train on the way to work.... I left wakefield in 94 but would still avidly read the express everytime I visited my parents.

Then a change happened... the stories became less and less supportive of the club. The newspaper didnt seem to represent the fans in their presentation... somehow Leeds united bacame a fixture in the pages... (why not Barnsley FC its nearer for gods sake!)... the general presentation of the paper became trashier, and sensationalist... real local stories were given the tabloid treatment. now the newspaper is low brow, unconnected to the city residents, and in no way supports the city in the way a local paper should...

The editor has to take responsibility for this...

Agree with Spock on this, i will buy it again if it ever returns to being a local newspaper, i have often wondered why there is no Barnsley coverage when Leeds gets so much space.

Paper boycotts do work. The Sun is still not bought on Mersyside.

I know its a local rag but isn't it right that someone who has been involved in such action is condemned for it?

Have not bought for a few years now, due to the rag having nothing but negative crap on the front page,
and also taking great delight in bringing down Wakefield the City, and Trinity the Club, whenever it got the slightest opportunity.

Hope the whole apology for local news and views dies a very quick death.

I have been buying the Wakefield Express all my adult life, as my Dad did before me. After seeing Tomorrows headline (25/02/2011) I no longer think this 'paper' is for me and will no longer be purchasing it. The only reason this is a headline story is because of the turmoil WAKEFIELD trinity have been through in recent weeks. There is such a positive story you could have wrote.

I do not buy tabloid papers for the very reason I will no longer buy the Wakefied Express.

Why should this denegrate the name of the club? It clearly does, as the lead header implicates such. It seems clear to me that the editor has been negligent in his/her duties.

I believe that they have caused more harm than good with this story, when this goes to court mr johnson`s representative will say that he has been sentenced by the media & probably get it thrown out of court. Not much justice for the victim !

What a sordid, nasty little cabal of anti-Wakefield tosspots runs our local rag; it's clear that they revel in denigrating the city and for some reason, reserve the worst of their gutter press aspirations for our only professional sports team.

We all have a responsibility to boycott the paper and to bombard the editor with complaints about their blatant editorial agenda against WTW; it's a total disgrace.

In the interest in balance i do agree there has to be some publicity re: this but. Timing and FRONT PAGE!! maybe an article on the back pages would have been more appropriate.

You have to be joking though. with all the positivity and a club saved and they write about one young player who has signed and as yet not been convicted.

Very poor and i buy every week but i will avoid now.

If the story is true we can hardly complain, we are trying to get the folk of wakefield behind us by promoting ourselves as a family club. If true the cowardly act is despicable and the person concerned should not be at our club. Imagine if the girl involved was your daughter what would be your feelings then ?
