well done Phil must of been very hard not to loose your temper with the opposition,
you come over as a very good ambassador for the club and they should be truly grateful for all the hard work that you have all done

Well done Phil a good solid factual argument well put.

One or two snippets which caught my ear.

Radio Leeds gave the impression that all 400 comments are in opposition to the plan and then went on to build a credible reason for the phone in by throwing Otters, Iron age ruins and traffic into the mix.

The emotive sound bite coming from an unnamed local whose lifetime dream of retiring into green pastures lying in ruins would turn many people again the development before hearing any counter argument.

Alex Shellbourne had little to offer because he falls into the category of Lazy Councillor who hasn’t taken the time to read the facts before eagerly embarking on his campaign of disapproval.

All he had was greenbelt, yes but the greenbelt, ah but what about the greenbelt, also sat navs might send truck drivers down the wrong roads and what about the er aaahh green belt.

If this is really a Leeds City Council document then as I've said before, Wakefield Council need to have a quiet word about our potential agreement with Sheffield re the Leeds Arena.

Whilst on the subject of Green Belt, doesn’t the plan for the site actually result in a net gain in Green belt land or am I wrong in my belief on this.

I hope those making the decision can see through the paper thin objections which are on the whole based on a small group of local residents scare mongering.

Heard the interview on Radio Leeds regarding the stadium. Thought TRB came over very well indeed. The Leeds Councilor was talking rubbish about the green belt. He made it sound like Pugneys or Newmillerdam, not a disused pit site. Also tried to make it sound like there was an abundance of wildlife on the site. The retired resident must be living in an ideal world if he doesn't think the junction on M62 will ever be developed.

to be fair Pugneys was a open cast mine and has taken many years to look as good as it does now, it was a massive hole in the ground in which they have created a beautiful lake by filling it with water and planting trees around it

So these councillors know better then Natural England and the EA do they?!

Just been on look north, that piece makes the area sounds fantastic.... pity the reality and the rest of the land isnt the same! very one sided article it seemed to me!

Not happy about that at all - a small part of the development!!!

I see Look North have nailed their colours to the mast then! I can only think that if this had been the Rhinos they would have approached it from a completely different angle and actually gone out of their way to show the benefits of the development rather then predominantly focusing on the opposition’s viewpoint.

just been on look north for a couple of mins and didn't put over a balanced point of view,
tv media has a greater effect as it becomes left on your mind with images of looking over a scenery with comments "you can't buy a view like that"

that snippet on the tv didn't do us any favours and made it look like it was all about WTW and not the community in general,

was the radio live ? and how long did look north spend with you filming ?

I was filmed for 2 or 3 minutes - that's longer than the feature itself, but the only bit they played was about Trin - none of the Community stuff I gave them!

I'm not paranoid or one for conspiracy theories, and usually shoot them down, but the question has to be asked then as to what is going on behind-the-scenes to discredit this scheme so much, and why are two seperate media outlets in the Wakefield Express - and a couple of pictures of the Wildcat Dolls and the story on the silly baby name won't change my mind on the rag - and the supposedly impartial BBC Leeds, with both Radio Leeds and Look North being based in the same building of course, have/are producing pieces which are not balanced.

you need to refuse to talk to these idiots

short and to the point but it was easy to put through, I recommend that you all follow suit as for all the hard work done we still have keep pushing the cause

here's what I sent

I am totally disgusted at the unbalanced way this came over, TV media has a right to allow both sides of an argument to be heard I know for a fact that Phil Townsend interview was cut so short that it hardly put over that

1, this stadium to be built isn't just for the use of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, it is a community stadium open to many uses,

2, much needed employment to an area that has suffered great loss in the mining community,

3, that the site in which the development is to done was a mine that closed many years ago, it is a known fly tipping eye sore.

4, that roads will be developed to redirect to make it pleasing to locals,

while I know you have to cut to allow it to fit to your programs you have damaged the amount of good work that has been done in two or three minutes, there was nothing about the amount of support for the project where over 15,000 signatures of approval towards it was mentioned, and many from that local area,

why was there not a report from the developers that intend to do the project ? its amazing how you can over look this

What a completely one sided piece on the new stadium/industrial development. Thought Harry looked smug when he introduced the piece. They managed to find just about the only decent view from what is a piece of derelict land. It was blatantly obvious that we did not get a balanced point of view.

I have just voiced my feelings to them.

They have not done any homework on this story and can't be bothered with any facts unless its anti anything Wakefield, now if it was a Leeds story it would have been different.
