| Quote: fat faced fan "i understand your sentiment, i think you make the argument for having quick scrums, but i'd still keep them as it takes 12 players out of the game and allows for a different shape to attacks for 1-3 tackles as a result.
i want them to be as quick as possible, but i would like the defending hookers to have a chance at winning the ball, not an even chance but a 1/5 chance.'"
Thats pretty much exactly what I would say on the scrum matter, it's basically a chance for a practiced set piece between the backs on the pitch with the forwards having less involvement
I'd also really like to see the quick tap brought back, normally an excuse for a half back to have a go at a broken line some of which had there back turned on the attack, always exciting to watch and again brings a different sort of attack and speed to one or two plays and very often allowed the attack to get a roll on

yes and a good reason for leaving the scrums in the game but make them real again

| Keep the scrums but insist forwards actually pack down properly and enforce that they must not break up before the ball comes out. Not one single side stay within 10m in any case, the defence is always (at least) up level with the scrum by the time the first receiver has the ball.

| They changed the rule on scrums because it was just getting roo messy.
You had hookers flat on their backs (no pun intended) trying to get the ball and slipping the arm.
You had scrums just collapsing because everyone was trying to get out as quick as possible
Never ending penalties because of both
but most of all, in winter rugby it was hard to do properly in the mud
Now we are in summer rugby it shouldn't be as hard.
Saying that.....I like the ball in play quicker
So I'd like to see
1) Both teams allowed to push in the scrum (if other team collapse or break before ball out its a penalty to advancing side)
2) If the scrum is formed and the clock is stopped, the same players have to pack down....will help point 1 if you get backs in there
I'm ok with the feeding
It won't change much from today apart from if a team tries to get an advantage from the quick set up scrum, they have to back it up when the other team push.

| Quote: The Trip "Well done yesterday, close thing, tough luck, blah blah blah. But in all honesty what is happening to our game? Look at the scores over the weekend and then imagine what they could be in the summer months. The game is in need of something drastic or else we are going to end up with a game of tag and it's becoming boring.
I say the subject of contested scrums should be considered again to at least bring some consistency to them and stop the likes of wingers, centres, water carriers half heartedly bending their backs for a few seconds.'"
Well I started this conversation a few weeks back after the Warrington game and more to do with the state of the game and tongue in cheek about the scrums. But after tonights debacle and again seeing the scores racked up over the weekend the game is too predictable.
The last 3 televised games has seen Saints twice and London have the games in the bag after 20 minutes after getting on a roll in the first quarter. There's too big a percentage of the SL games being walkovers and non events. I dread to think what will happen over Easter.
As for tonight's embarressment, the players, coaches and club should dig deep into their pockets and refund the brave lot that travelled down there to witness that non performance.

Not sure I agree with that. There have always been walkovers, but because the teams can get on a roll playing catch up, it is less predictable now. Do you remember the disgust of giving up a 21-0 half-time lead against Warrington? A Super League record. 21-0 now would no longer be regarded as a dead cert win. Take the Catalan game last Sunday. We had a massive lead, but did anyone relax until around five minutes to go?
