2 things -
1 - name a better coach who would come
2 - Kears record speaks for itself at Wakey
We aren't ever gonna regularly beat the big boys in our current situation, we need this stadium sorted ASAP, then we can get going a bit more.
Ok so it looks like he's dropped the ball with the Cooke debacle, but be fair - how many of his other signings have been great additions.
Just give him some time to sort it out

| I said it after the Hull game, that he should go.Many people said he should be given more time etc....We are another 3 games on and sinking quicker that the titanic.
Kears selection policies have gone beyond a joke ,for the second time this season he selected a winger on the bench.Tonight that was criminal!!He must have known Latu couldnt do the full 80,so why the hell no Davey?
Selecting Gleeson again, this guy must rate as one of the all time worst centres to grace Super League. He had options tonight of selecting Murphy at centre and bringing back Blaymire at fullback.
Tonight we played a team missing arguably their most influential playmaker - Orford and they lost probably their second key playmaker,in Kearney for the whole of the second half, indeed he was on one leg after 20 minutes.Yet Bradford were still able to put 29 points on us without reply.
We dont appear to have many if any attacking moves, which makes me wonder what Kear has them doing in training. At times our attacking options and running of lines are shambolic.
This is Kears team, what Kear has put together and the dross that is been served up is unacceptable -- the buck stops with him.
Kear is untouchable to many for his great efforts in keeping us in Super League, but for how long do we have to repay that achievement?
Kears trademark was to get more than average out of an average player, but he is now struggling to get average out of an average squad,in my opinion he is getting considerably below average out of HIS squad.Everytime this subject comes up,people will always make comment --"well who can you get better, that will come",sorry, but thats not a good reason for sticking with a coach whos team is serving up dire performances week after week.Coaches are not disimilar to players -- if the money is right they will come.Kear himself doesnt come cheap.
I wont stop watching like some have suggested they will, but i will continue to express my opinion that its time for Kear to move on.

Totally agree on Obst and the selection policy is a joke.

Millward?
At least you get the feeling he would let the lads play with a bit more freedom and it wouldn't be like watching paint dry for an hour and half a week. Its the boring play I can't do with, can handle watching crap but this regimented, dull lack of creative ideas is getting lots of people down. We had more invention from Kingy than the rest of the backs put together....

| I see many comparisons in the current Trinity team and the Noble coached Wigan team. You look technically very poor in most aspects of the game and also the fitness and condition of the players looks poor, I am not saying all the lads have to look like body builders but a good few to me look to be carrying excess fat. Attacking wise there is no sign of life and there appears to be a lethargy in all aspects of the team. It is just my opinion but it seems to me that the more experienced English coaches are getting shown up by the technical coaching of the Aussies, and the methods of the English guys have become dated very quickly.
I feel the biggest error this year has been placing too many eggs in one basket, you were always going to field a pretty strong starting 13 from the squad at the start of the year, but once you picked up injuries (or departures) you were always going to struggle for me.
Regards Cooke I understand he is on a contract till the end of the year, the position you were in he became a calculated risk, with the potential to fill a play makers void, sadly at the moment the risk has not paid off.
Worrying times for a Trinity fan, and while I do feel Kear now needs to turn things round to remain as coach I would not necessarily want him out of the club altogether I feel the best role for the older coaches is one of football director looking at youth structures and player development etc
Millward would be the obvious go to man for me should things not change regard the lethargy of on field performance and also a shake up of the backroom altogether may also be required.

Hasn't Millward got a clause in the contract that lets him go if a SL club want him? Would take him or Cullen, possibly Powell at a push.

Unfortunately we don't have the luxury of letting a new coach cut his teeth, we need somebody with a proven track record, Millward the man with several grand finals under his belt (and more importantly likely to be available) has got to be considered as a solution to our ongoing problem.
And for your reference, seen as you apparently struggle with the meaning:
=#0000FFknee-jerk (nē'jûrk')
[iadj. Slang[/i
Easily predictable; automatic: "quick, easy laughs and knee-jerk responses" (New York).
Reacting spontaneously in the expected manner: a knee-jerk cynic.
We've been pathetic since before Easter, and more and more people are getting sick of it and (most) discussing it in a reasonable and constructive manner after. 6 matches or so with let down after let down on and off the field, it can hardly be considered "Knee-jerk"

I know you mods try to keep things positive and you generally do a sterling job of it, but its the nature of the performances that is the concern not the losses.
I feel you need fresh ideas, not more of the same. The last thing you need to become is a jobs for the boys club (although it is certainly an issue at the moment in my opinion at the club).

| Said it before, Kear has earned the time to sort this out and not just because of six games four years ago. The club are on a different level to what they were before he arrived. We've had three years of steady progression. So this season may end up being a write off. So what. Thats how sport goes sometimes.
The team are well and truely out of form and it's down to Kear to sort it out. You only have to look at last year so see that he can do this. Look at Quins. A few weeks ago they were awful yet they get a few troops back, win a game and appear to be a completely different team.
There were opportunities last night a team with a win or two behind them would've taken and ultimately won the match. However, this team is low on confidence therefore they rush the chances they get making a mess of them. A coach can't make allowances for knock on's, messing up the play of the ball and crazy passes.

| I've said this on more than one occasion and been slagged off for my troubles but "John Kear is a brilliant technical coach, what he is not and never will be is a head coach".
He may be able to inspire a team for a select few games, he appears unable to manage a side consistently throughout a season. When he was No. 2 to Bomber at Hull, we played some of our best rugby, entertaining while still being able to defend well. I even went so far as to tell Bomber that Kear was his best ever signing.
People will point to our 2005 Wembley success but that was simply two great matches. After that we went backwards (and seem to have been going backwards ever since). John needs to have an honest word with himself and accept the fact that Assistant Coach is probably his best position. I never really bought into the "Kear factor" theory but after seeing it unfold in front of my eyes, I'm now a convert.

Saying it does not make it so! He has been in his time but i just get the impression his methods have become dated. His ability to motivate is well documented, but only so many times can the same tricks work and it looks at the moment like he has played all his aces over the last 4 years.

He cant,you are correct.
But he is responsible for our lack of creativity, lack of attacking moves, lack of set plays and dire team selection.
Kear is/was a one trick pony, having the ability to motivate an average group of players into producing above average performances.Unfortunately it appears he no longer has that ability and has nothing else to fall back on.
Are we really on such a different level to where we four years ago?Stadium apart,we are constantly in financial dire straits and continue to sell players to survive.
