| Agree entirely with your comment fritzy, like you I hoped our pre season position would mean a chance for some of our young products to be worked on and encouraged with a view to get some game time, but agars use of walshaw and wildie says to me they were only stop gaps in his plans

| Easily said from the comfort of your PC chair i'd suggest.
This is a dogfight season with a lot of money (and indeed the fututre of the club) at stake.
P and r was always likely to bring an influx of other players into the club shoud we be in a position to afford them.
The romantic in me would have loved to see a few of our youngsters some game time and maybe in the second half of the season if we have picked up sufficient points in the first half, they will.
I've picked 13 winnable games for us, 7 in the first half and 6 in the second (admittedly three are against Cas who look like they could well beat us on all three occasions) if we have 10points by the mid point and Bulls, Catalans and london's woes have not improved maybe they will get their chance?
Either way its a long season to be righting off anyones chances after four games, in such a brutal sport.

| 8 wins SHOULD be enough with the bulls having a 6 point deficit.

Quote: Fritzys Mullet "Ryan would be the first one that came to mind. I have nothing against him personally and he may prove to be an astute signing, but for me after 3 or 4 games the jury is still out.
We dont see them training on a daily basis so cant give a completely accurate account, but what i do believe is that he & Harry will be given more games to prove there worth than the likes of Walshaw, Trout, Wildie etc based on the simple fact that they have been brought half the way around the world...'"

His stats are very average at present...
It's good to see TT ripping it up with his metres gained and his fantastic performance last week but but he's given away 6 penalties so far which is the most in the team and in super league to date.

Good luck to Walshaw hopefully more game time over the next month will lead to some form that may give RA the option of giving him another opportunity in second row in the coming months...

This is not the season to take the moral high ground by playing our younger inexperienced players on a weekly basis. It would be a brave person to stand up and say to the supporters we are out of super league but we do so in an honourable way by sticking with our younger home grown players. It would also be coaching suicide which is easy for some on here to ignore because it is not their future in the hands of the players. I doubt many on here would be quite so understanding.
These players will get playing time but sadly due to necessity it will be less this season due to the imposition of relegation to our game. This is just the sad state of affairs in the game at the moment.

Thats all well and good and i agree but can you explain the last ten years of ignoring our younger home grown players.
This is just the sad state of affairs in the game full stop.

this season is more important than the season after as we will end up in never never land if we do go down, Walshaw has lit up the games when he's been on but I do wish he had been given some more time to do it

| How much experience does Lyne, Molloy and Briscoe have? Hasn't Matt Ryan only played 30 NRL games? Siejka has played less than 10. The experience argument is a red herring.

| I agree with points made to an extent, some of the players who are overseas will be played more because they are probably paid more? Walshaw has played 2 out of 4 games this season and has been sent out on loan to get more gametime. Annakin was brought through last season didn't he go on loan too? Crowther has made his debut and probably get more games under the belt as the season goes along and Max Jowitt will probably get games as Agar has said too. This season is important and if this means this happening and us staying up I'm all for it.

| I thought the promotion and relegation thing might come up but as has been pointed out what's the excuse been for the previous 10 years??
Surely as has been proved in the past, there is as much risk bringing 2nd grade players from Oz over as there is in playing a youngster. I'm thinking Southern for example.

I agree with you to an extent as I said but you're saying this now, it isn't 10 years ago - some players are coming through. MC said he wants to put money into our academies to bring youngsters through. Lets not forget who signed Southern...

Every sport evolves around success and how best to achieve it. You look at Manchester United how many players do they have from their own youth development. I would consider a player that has only played 4 first grade games in the NRL to be far more experienced than a player with a similar number of games in SL.
None of us attend training or are involved so how do any of us know how each player compares with the next. If we still had a reserve grade then we could better judge a player's ability and it would allow them to stay within the club's programme.
The bottom line is we can all have our opinions but it is a leisure facility for us and a means of living for the coaching staff therefore they must go with the best team available each week.
