and the award for most pathetic post of the week goes to....
UC agree with your post. Gleeson, and imo Blanch, were poor tonight. TRB you say stop the sliding defence it doesn't work and i agree, but only in that some players have suddenly lost the ability to implement it.
In the first half our kicking was as bad as i have seen in a long long time and barely improved in the 2nd half. As much as he tried Obst was very ineffectual tonight. Cooke looked rusty and needs time, Henderson was the only one making any kind of yardage.
Was worried at how Davey was dropped from the bench to make way for Kirmond, not that I dont think he should be involved but that we looked unbalanced.
Worried, but hopefully we can stuff our rivals on friday....

I doubt JK will make many changes as he likes to let players redeem themselves, but surely he needs to address Gleeson's defensive frailties.'"
Think jk has persevered long enough with gleeson - his defense has been shocking this season, time for a change.
Have to say that although we were poor defensively it was our lack of tactical kicking and ball control aligned to a lack of go forward that really caused the problem, obst was awful with his kicking first attempt a poor kick straight into to touch - a series of aimless mid field kicks and then near the line both obst and cooke trying to thread the eye of the needle.
Thought wolves set out to stop our front row playing and just beat us up,

The consensus around me was man to man. We do not have much success with the sliding defence - if you get it wrong (as we do) it looks horrible.
TBF to Warrington - their handling and momentum were good enough to expose us in those areas - as were Hudds and as were Wigan at BV last year (Ainscough x 4).

| Quote: Uptoncat "Not the ref who wasn't the best but our display tonight. Very flat with ball in hand mainly 5 drives and a kick. Once again gleeson has shown he is the worst defensive centre in the league and blanch on the wing wasn't much better. We've got a natural centre playing out on the wing surely noes the time to drop gleeson give murphy his chance in his favourite position and bring back moreton or George. JD is looking very tired this season and I hate saying it but I'm not sure he's up to the task against the top teams in the league. Hopefully tonight is a blip but it's no coincidence that the two tes we've played with a bit of form behind them have beaten us convincingly. The score flattered us tonight and we need to improve ten fold for the derby game on good Friday'"
Yes I am another poster that totally agrees with your views.
Time to give Gleeson a rest but that leaves us with only Millard and Murphy as true centres in our squad.

| would have to agree with previous posts, we were miles off the pace last night.
gleeson looks very out of form
blanch not playing half as well as morton was (poss not fit)
jd too slow for a centre and not creative enough for loose forward
sam gives his all but seemed to be trying to cover hooker as well when latu was off
tronc must be sick to death of being used as cannon fodder, trundling up the same channel where the opposition are stood waiting to hammer him!(just a random off the wall idea but why not miss him out once in a while?)
it could just be transitional. losing brough, jeffries, johnson and newton was always going to have some effect on the team.
with the half back situation we cannot start without an interchange hooker, thought young davey has stood up well so far

Thats because he went to hooker when Latu went off. Morrision to 7 and Cooke stays at 6.

| I thought Obst was a more than adequate replacement for Brough after the previous two games, or are we starting to look more long term now?
Poor Paul Cooke. When will he get a settled partner to work with so he can stamp his influence on the team. He's gone from not playing at all to moving to a new club and having to be the main creative force! Hopefully, he's given time and not expected to pull up trees straight away.
Is it better to play Morrison out of position while players come back, reducing his effectiveness, or put one of the much vaunted youth of this club in the side?
Is Demetriou up to it or, like Davis in his last year with us, is this a year too far? It'd be easy to say he's not being picked on performance at the moment. We can't pick a team on emotion can we?

| Thought our 2 biggest problems last night were the terrible distribution from half back and individual errors in defense.
The balls from our acting half back were more often than not woeful from Latu - either infront or behind the runner or too high or too low - leaving the big fella's with no chance of timing their runs, something that Tronc and Gledhill particularly seemed to struggle with more than most yesterday, this left us on the back foot for most of the game.
Individual erros cost us deerly in defense, shocking numbering up and communication on the left hand side leaving us exposed. Blanch didn't have the pace to correct his (and more often Gleeson's) bad position and decisions. We decided to give them the outside, and they had the pace to take it - but we seemed to learn the lesson when Gleeson went off and we changed things. 2 tries and 10 points leaked before we start. Then we have, what appeared to be (from a long way away behind the sticks) a howler from Blaymire for their 3rd try - anybody seen a replay of it? 14 daft points leaked.
Whilst I don't doubt that Wire had another gear or maybe 2, and fluffed a couple of tries (Carvell taking the wrong option with a 3 man overlap springs to mind) and could have stepped up a notch if required, the fact is we only got beat by 16 points (16 we let in daftly) and stranger things have happened when we get close to teams after being well behind......
Kicking game was non existant, Korki and Tronc had as close to stinkers as they have had all season (aided by Latu) and with ball in hand we looked clueless, but you would expect that with a brand new/makeshift half back pairing.
We need to pull our fingers out against Cas cos I can't see us getting any change out of Wigan on Monday.

He seemed to be doing a bit of organising last night, pointing and showing the lads where to be - if he can continue to do this and stamp his influence as you say he might come good at 6 with BJ at 7.

Yes another good post highlighting some valid points.
