| Stanley Rangers u14s only just manage to scrape through todays games against Dudley Hill winning 12-10
some absolute appalling reffing that had prevoiusly helped east leeds beat the u15s by two points, he then continued it in our game with 5 mins to go he sin binned one player for complaining about a player down injured while they scored their last try and then binned another for asking why he was sinned the first player so ended up with 11 on the pitch.
it was some effort to keep them from scoring again to win
Big game next week as we are away to Normy Knights

| Reffing at all levels this season has been diabolical, I watch a considerable amount of ARL and semi/pro and have been amazed at the standard, I watched 4 games of rugby today and have to say the worse display was at top level, so how do you expect the youngsters to improve their reffing when what they aspire to perform so badly

i wouldnt disagree at all,i doubt anyside will be able to contain crigg unless complacency sets in or a certain individual misses a few games.
this has got me thinking to how the aussies do things and instead of playing age groups they play to size and weight so that everyone on the field is of simular build,i had a good chat with both lance and gadge after the game at the weekend and they both said we played the better rugby, but ended up on the end of a 32-0 scoreline and i wouldnt disagree that we played the better rugby.
now more than ever at u12s you can see quite clearly that some kids are growing quicker than others and at times it is men vs boys and the men will always win. i can see this trend conituing for the next two years at least until we get the levelling off period at around u15s u16s.
i also feel it does the bigger kids no good in the long run has they can rely on there size to just power through teams rather than having to use skillls to open up teams something they will need when they play at a higher level in the coming years, has a kid myself i saw some quite awsome kids at junior level and at the time they seemed unstoppable but i cant remember many of them been any good after everyone else had caught them up in size.
im not having a dig at the kids or the teams they play for has any coach would love them in there side and use them the same way and its not there fault they are what they are.please take it in the right context.

See it all the time, Stanley are quite a big set of lads and after containing their pack they couldn't match us for pace and handling. I took a team from 11s through to 16s a number of years ago, up to 14s were physically dominated then after it levelled out we had developed 'rugby playing ability' while other sides whod relied on their size had gone backwards and we were hammering them. Got to be said, it's very short sighted from the coaches.

| think the size thing is more of a scare factor to most kids but as the old sayin goes BIGGER THEY ARE HARDER THEY FALL, but well done to vikings on a good win esp after stanley did a upset last week over cas lock lane.

ah you know im a great admirer of your set rob and have been shy of showing it on these boards , my lad always looks forward to the challenge and always as. I must pick you up on a certain point though bud . I can see how a lot may think its the one man show but a few years ago i was constantly watching a team which a lot of coaches would say they only use 3 big lads take them out they would be nothing and yet you now have 2 parents players of the year playing for you and to be fair since them two and my lad left they are not as awesome . they are very very competitive but the half back , hooker , loose forward gone they now are but a shadow of the threat . So what point do i make well its like this
once upon a time i would agree when he first came and crigg were struggling for numbers JD was always the lad the ball was given to and when he was tired crigg was sometimes in trouble because the others needed a bit of self confidence . then come under 11s a large numbered squad , still they were giving it to JD a lot i remember a cold night the lad playing for stnley going up to crigg and losing coming away thinking the big lad won it for them but also looking at our mistakes . The same old if he of passed or if he would of not kicked on the 4th etc. Then my young joined the all blacks after a few moths and wanting revenge for what many thought was a unjust defeat at crigg they faced eastmoor at there place .
when the lads were turning up for the warm up JD turned up with his arm in pot "doing a back flip" with some crazy name. so the star player was down not to worry we have a new player same size TH and as you know rob CB so no problem . about 3 minutes into the game a high ball nobody calls a clash of heads TH out rest of game concussion , CB ambulance face rearranged oh , by the way short on numbers today no OG as well so its damage limitation a few minutes later and for some reason none will ever know one the centre JM was fully beaten he stuck his leg out . no contact but only one result RED.
The lads went on to spank Eastmoore all over the park.
They lost JD & CB for a while but didn't lose a game for the rest of the 11s
JD&CB and other big time players have been out and back
Crigg have since never lost a game without JD, so a little unfair. Crigg can play it both ways . they can win by 50 or they can as showed away at stanningley draw 6-6 (best game ive seen)

| well said muttley!!! but basil it a touch bad for u as well after reading ur match reports and TRANMER this and TRANMER that!! everytime team "has a star player" but normally every time everyone knows about that theat and trys to deal with it but its then other players who then step up to the mark and turn a game around but less of this naming players i think u will find that to win uv got to score but every team needs a good defence with out it u r nothing even if u hav someone who can score 4 or 5 trys a game.

Thats how most junior coaches and support staff see it, sadly one or two coaches want to go pot hunting and only really care about winning silver, they use the kids to make them feel special and its always gone on.
The ones who develope players i take my hat off to and i know its a fine line at times, the others should not be allowed near the game.
