This decision is bewildering and totally counterintuitive and represents a huge and probably fatal blow.

All the other good things that *could* have happened, were predicated upon getting the stadium moving; clearly, that's not going to happen for at least another year, by which point I would expect York Court to have moved on and our SL application to have been declined, with a great sigh of relief at Red Hall.

if we go into the championship then its not the end of the world as long as we got rid of this shambolic board and coach, who have penny pinched there way through sl and starved the club of investment. weve had chances to build a ground before with ossett and we messed that up. weve known about the situation long enough and i know that people have worked towards a new ground which still might happen,but the blame if we get kicked out lays firmly at the bod who couldnt run an egg and spoon race. i think theyve had some idea hence signing nobody players on 1 year contracts. the bod didnt even have the balls to tell the staff what had happened and they found out on here. its a joke and the sooner they go the better. but whos gonna take over, well who could do any worse.

I still think you can avoid the drop but, as you say, if you do come down it isn't going to be as bad as some will make out.

With regards to Oakwell not being viable in the championship... I don't know all the details but Sheffield Eagles cope well enough playing out of Bramall Lane which belongs to the football club. So maybe it is possible for you to play out of Oakwell even if the worst did happen and you lose your SL spot if you had a similar arrangement?

I have been to thousands of games. I don't bother with the chapionship that much as I prefer to watch our under 18's and under 20's as the standard is higher.

We've only ourselves to blame 10-15 yr of false promises and hype...

Other clubs fans will state this and it's hard to argue, how many different sites have we had? Ossett? Queens drive? Thornes park?! Newmarket?!

How can you blame us for newmarket. The site has only been identified for a couple of years and to get it to a stage where planning is passed (locally) and funding is in place in such a short period is fantastic. Say what you like about everything else but no one could have done more to make Newmarket happen. Infact it could still happen but not as quickly as we would have liked but that dosn't help I know.

Absolutely gutted by this news. A couple of months ago we were all celebrating the news that we had a chance of getting a license, now we are fuming at the news that pretty much kills our license hopes. Championship here we come, unfortunately.

Disappointment beyond belief.

Jeez, I hope all your fans don't share your snobbish sounding views on Championship rugby (and I'm sure they do not). If your going to bail on your club as soon as they leave the top flight then i'm sure you won't be missed all that much anyway.

Look forward to seeing you get hammered down at POR on 2012!!! Your club is going to be a victim of the way it voted. SL clubs voted for this system so clubs have to accept the consequences. 12 years of SL money and you've nothing to show for it. Back to 1500 fans you had before promotion to SL then.

Most of the running seems to have been done by SWAG, the people in charge of the club are clueless. It should have been sorted years ago.This club has kept going in spite of Ted and his cronies, not because of them. Now the luck has run out. Goodbye wakey Trin, its been coming for a long time. Sad times.

Not much choice when the door gets slammed in your face for 3 years.

Would it be possible to stay at Belle Vue and accept the Championship or is the sale complete?

Lets not give up just yet! This is a massive setback but there has to be options!!

The club have to talk to Barnsley now and try and come to an agreement to play there until Newmarket is ready. Saints are playing at Widnes next year i think, so surely the RFL could not turn down us playing at Oakwell?? With all the problems the Welsh club have had recently and they will still be in the league. Look how many times Fulham/London Broncos/Harlequins have played at different grounds.

They surely would be grounds for court cases if they booted us out as it would be preferential treatment, i am not a lawyer or in fact knowledgable on law but would could claim loss of income etc etc.

The club could try and run a transport service to Oakwell from the City centre to reduce the impact of the additional travelling on our fans.

We as a club have come through so much in the last few years, we all need to pull together and make this happen. I will go to Oakwell and support my team!

Re: Public Inquiry for Newmarket

The news today that the Secretary of State, Mr Pickles, has decided to call for a Public Inquiry to determine the outcome of the planning application for the Newmarket development is clearly disappointing as the SWAG committee were, and remain, confident in the fact that the benefits associated with the development are more than sufficient to make this an extremely viable application.

Having received a unanimous decision from the Planning Committee on the 22nd October, we were hopeful that the weight of support for the scheme, including the handing over of the 15,000+ signature petition, would prove to be strong enough to persuade Mr Pickles and his officers to hand the final decision back to Wakefield Council to determine. Regrettably, this has proved not to be the case.

The exact ramifications from the decision remain to be seen; details such as how long will the process take and what type of information will be required to assist with the Inquiry are yet to be worked out - but SWAG can already confirm it's dedication to support the Newmarket proposals for as long as it takes until the scheme is either given final approval, or until someone determines that the scheme cannot proceed (although we consider the chances of the latter outcome to be remote).

We will now begin the discussions with the concerned parties over what action we may take to show help the scheme, and we are confident that those many people who have worked hard to support the campaign for a new Stadium in Wakefield will again offer their assistance if and when called upon.

In summary, we see today's announcement as merely the beginning of another phase in the effort to provide Wakefield with the Sporting Facilities which this City can be proud of.
