Without wanting to restart the 'debate' from the other locked thread, I just wanted to publicly say how well I thought Keegan did on national radio today - represented our sport really well, and I felt a great deal of pride listening to him.

I think we've got a good 'un here

I believe he's going to prove to be one of those signings who suprises a lot of people looking forward to seeing him pull on the trinity shirt

I agree.
We have lacked leaders in the past but he comes across as one to me.

He's certainly an excellent leader, ambassador and role model off the field, hopefully a good preseason will bring him up to scratch as a super league player so that he can continue this leadership onto the pitch

With players like Hirst it tends to go two ways.

Some quickly realise there was a reason thy were second tier players and find themselves quickly out of thier depth especially in the forwards. They then disappear without a trace.

The other is the sort who has all the attributes but has never really pushed themselves because it was easy just to coast along. They then find themselves playing superior players and realise it's sink or swim.

This is not unique to sportsman there are late bloomers everywhere in life. It takes most people a while to work it all out but when they do they often eclipse the early starters.

Let's hope Hirst is the latter and now has the drive and determination to really make his mark. I hate all this roll model stuff but in this case it's more apt than normal. I'm not trying to labour the point but Hirst is now in a position to dispel a number of myth and good on him. It's a bit of added pressure mainly of his own making but I reckon he'll do ok.

I'd have thought being a prop it might be a little easier skill wise to make the jump than the backs, if he's gonna be a crash bang wallop no nonsense type of prop it's gonna be a mental step up, and from what I see from the media he seems strong in that respect.

He's certainly articulate and seems to represent himself and the sport well in the media; and because of his circumstances, he's in the media more than most. At the risk of sounding cynical, if I worked at the club, I'd be making the most of that. How many WT players have been on breakfast telly, the national news, and First Dates?

That said - he will have a job to do in terms of achieving the intensity required to deliver at SL level - which will obviously have to be his priority; I wish him luck - I hope it works out for all of us.

Other than 'First Dates', Miller was on the national news and breakfast shows in the run up to the Semi final

Skill wise maybe. What I was alluding to was ticker, the championship is tough but there are games where you can hide but not in SL where you get punished - that's the step up he has to make.

I know - that's why I added First Dates. The value of that kind of exposure, whether you like it or not (I don't) is huge; the ever growing population of the terminally stupid live and die by this kind of dross entertainment and, if we're to grow the game, we have to develop some of the personalities involved in it into household names - people are interested in people, hence the rise and rise of reality TV.

It's a trick we've missed time and time again, not helped by the fact that a lot of RL players are not especially articulate or interesting - the ones that are should be supported and compensated to get media agents and get themselves and, by extension, the game, talked about.

Done especially well in the NRL, where some players are household names. I love watching NRL, but have to say that off-the-field they are most impressive. Even watching from England, I'm able to watch 'Monday night with Matty Johns,' 'the Footy Show' and 'On the Couch with Sterlo' on a weekly basis during the season - and I know there are other weekly RL shows that we don't get on Premier - but it all adds up to the great game being part of antipodean popular culture..... to be applauded.
