| A lot of the Leigh fans thought he was Man of the Match and I agree he was one we shouldn't have let go.
Spilt milk now though.

Some things in life just don't make any sense. You just have to shrug ya shoulders and move on.

Aa much a I thought he could have been a decent player for us, imo he wouldn't be the difference between us being top 8 and getting relegated. That'll come down to how the team as a whole play during the season.

Did we let him go, or was it that we could not keep him? due perhaps to the demands of a greedy agent, I know which my money would be on.

As I remember it we offered Mariano a deal but Cas offered him a better one. Condidering what we were going through at the time it wouldn't have been a good idea to spend even more money we didn't have.
Like someone said earlier these have both been done to death and I'm happy with the team we've got now.

Who cares about Liam Kay. We've now got Tom Johnstone who appears to be a real talent. I'm looking forward to seeing him on the wing in the red, white and blue this season!

You're making a fool of yourself or you're Liam's mum?
You're talking like he's in the same league as Ryan Hall - newsflash HE AIN'T and he won't bite anyones behind.
For starters his grand total of SL games is err ONE.
Further to that and to dispel one of the many lunatic myth on here - Kay is not a Wakefield product but came to us via Leeds and Bradford who both in turn rejected him, tell you anything? Not that I think that discounts him from making it just that not professionals seem to believe him to be that great.
What really annoys me however is that until the Cas game most of those like you who shout his praises had never heard of him. I know this because when I suggested he got a run out mid 2013 season only two posters thought I had a point or knew who he was and none of those are on this thread.
As pointed out get excited about Tom Johnstone instead of moaning pathetically about a player who left of his own accord - for money - ages ago

I'd stop worrying about Frankie, if rumours coming out from our club are right he might not pull a shirt on again. If Cas offered more money than you then that's it end of its a short career and can end any time.

| Liam Kay cannot have been asking for more money than the deal we have just given Owen. We should have kept him. The club needs to be built on local talent with a sprinkling of class from overseas such as Tim Smith and Dean Collis. I do hope that Webster gives Johnston Crowther and Jowitt a decent chance to develop and eventually cement a place in the team but if they just get the odd substitute appearance late in games that are already lost they will be driven away. I know we have been relatively successful with other teams cast offs but we will never win anything with that signing policy.

Four tries in four superleague appearances, 6 tries in 5 first team appearances. But i take your point and whilst i'd have preferred it if he'd have stayed to see if he would have made the grade with us, and i personally think he will somewhere eventually, he decided to leave. He's gone, move on.

Did you get those stats from Wiki. I can only find 4 tries 3 of which were in one game. Also one of those games was against Hemel and two were speculator away games. So it's not quite what it appears.
Don't get me I'm a fan and reckon he should have got a run out half way through 2013 not the end, he was as good as anything we had at that point IMHO. However he's no superstar or if he is he's leaving it late. He's also not really a HB despite despite what Wiki says. Why we are getting carried away I don't know, we've lost much better and cried less.

No doubt about it, and he is what he is - a winger.
Problem with Kay is he was to utility and probably always will be - good in a way because he'll always get a wage but will probably exclude him from absolute top flight.
Hope he proves me wrong.

He played 3 superleague games plus the Hemel game in 2013 after making his debut the previous season. In addition to the cas hat-trick and the 2 against Hemel he also scored at Warrington. Have to agree he is now an out and out winger and having just turned 23 with the advent of some fulltime championship sides and the split divsions this is the season to see what he has got.

| I can never understand why people go on about ex players. So he played a few and scored a couple of tries and looked decent and wow he's scored against Wigan in a friendly. Tom Johnstone has broken into the first team picture pre season and he's staking a claim for a regular place that's great news and just what we need. I'm only interested in who wears and wants to wear the colours of my home town team and if he gives his all I'll back him to the hilt. Same as Owen, I saw him score a good few tries for us last season, people should concentrate on positives like that and support the lad. Alright he has deficiencies in his defence but he's not the only one but he can certainly finish and that's what I'm hoping to see plenty of this coming season, if he can score a bagfull of tries nobody will care if he's got a 3 year deal. The constant moaning by some nameless people even before we've started is frankly embarrassing. At least give the guys a chance to show what they can do, get behind them for Pete's sake.
