I hope Applegarth treated last night's game as day dot and Cas merely have a head start from what was the remaining half dozen games. I know we've been garbage for the majority of the season but I can see at least three (usually) winnable games.

Salford A - Winnable. Beaten once and came very close to beating twice, only losing in golden point.

Saints H - Winnable. Always seem to do well at home against Saints and have had some good recent results.

Catalans H - Can't see anything coming from this game other than a major suffering of our points difference.

Leigh A - No chance.

Hull KR H - Winnable. I think Hull KR's season might now slowly fizzle out after the cup defeat.

We aren’t favourites to win any of our remaining games however there’s always a chance of a lightning bolt from the blue and a result that none saw coming and that’s our only hope! Even if that happens we’ve got to hope that Cas don’t win another game and also take a number of hidings that will negate the points difference.

Even if we do stay up, which after last night looks even more doubtful, we need better. Four wins and a battle at the bottom isn't good enough year in year out. Let Long take over, his win rate at Fev shows he certainly knows how to orchestrate a team.

This is the thing that always frustrates me.
If we have big investment we don't go for an assistant coach who has never been head coach in SL.

If we are going to change we need a coach with lots of proven experience or an up and coming NRL assistant who is recommended.

This sounds like you think the appointment of Long lacks ambition because we may have an investor with money. I would think until the deal is done no one would invest a large amount of money without some control.
It may be we bring in an experienced NRL coach when the incumbents depart who knows but the chances are certainly improved greatly.

I'd let Long finish the season as Head Coach and take it from there. 19/21 is considerably better than 4/22!

I think he is an excellent choice for our assistant.

Him and Long, working as assistants to a much more experienced coach could be a half decent coaching set up.

Maybe too, see if Applegarth would be interested in taking his old role with the kids, though that ship may well have sailed

Vastly different relative squad quality, but regardless its woeth a shot. It's not working with Mash and there has never been any signs of improvement in the squad or team play. The wins look like outliers rather than the culmination of work done on the training field.
