One thing that is disappointing is the rivalry is a bit nastier now than it used to be, I used to sit in the Tigers Bar with some mates in my Wakey top after every game there for years, but have felt increasingly uncomfortable the last 3 seasons or so, and that's a shame.'"
Sorry but that is so wrong and could apply to any games.
I'm with TRB on this one, why do people talk the club and the game down.
The skill levels on display between top and bottom over a season are marginal. Sometimes Leeds or Saints fire and sometimes they don't - Ditto Salford or Widnes. One of the biggest myth in sport is that top teams playing each other give you the best games, yet in my experience it's nothing like. The CCup or FA Cup are often dull affairs as are much trumpeted league clashes. Yet sometimes you can watch a so called low key game and it's the best game of the season. The only difference is top teams turn it on and win more often and hence win titles. In the past ten years I have seen Cas and especially Wakefield play each other in games of intensity and skill the equal of any other. All your doing is applying a weird kind of inverted snobbery and pandering to elitism.
I remember a reporter telling Obst after the million pound game that it was lacking skill etc. Obst got really annoyed and told the twerp that when the players future and the clubs future is on the line you don't just throw the ball around. He said it was a very skillful game (and I agree) because keeping it tight and holding the line is the hardest skill of all - I'd personally love to see how well some of the star studded teams would have played in our position, I reckon some big names and big mouth would be found wanting.
