I think you may be underestimating the power agents hold over the players on their books who by and large are easily manipulated - that's how these slugs work. The deals have been done and the players will move if their agent tells them. He will because he will almost certainly make more from a move by fair means or foul. Some clubs have very close ties with certain agents and it's not in the agents best interest to bite the hand that feeds. Unless we make a spectacularly better offer the said player will go where he is told and we can do very little about it.
