I understand your sentiment Vasty, but if you think that any other club is different you're kidding yourself. I'm not speaking out of ignorance neither am I making this point on the basis of what I've read on the other clubs message boards.
Having played and worked at different professional clubs and having more than a passing interest in the club's that my brothers have played and coached, I'm talking from personal experience and the experiences of my family at a host of other clubs over a great number of years.
I can tell you that every club has fans that will find a way to denigrate those individuals, whether it’s players, administrators or other fans, who make or seek to make a positive impact upon the club which they serve or support. With some people it's a pathological reaction that they don't even recognise in themselves let alone have the ability to manage.
I tend to think that rather than being vindictive these people generally act on the negative emotions generated by their poorly managed expectations or some misguided idea that the target of their negativity is somehow less emotionally invested in the club of their choice than they are.
Perspective is generally what they lack overall!
The ability to step back and view success or failure within the context of the bigger picture.'"
I don't think you are wrong as regards being negatives at all clubs, all clubs are the same in that respect. My argument as regards some Trinity fans (more than at other SL clubs IMHO) are almost genetically incapable of enjoying the good bits.
Yes Wigan and Leeds fans are notoriously fickle, but when they are doing well which admittedly is far more often than us they know how to enjoy themselves.
I swear if we won SL there would be some on here looking for the grey cloud the day after.
Many years ago Wakey were beating Warrington (I think) in a game at BV. It was a great effort by ours lads yet most of the miserable old wags were still moaning. A Wire fan asked why we were not getting behind our team. My mate said as a joke that if we went 50 ahead we would give them a polite round of applause. It was a crap joke because I don't think a lot of Wakey fans would have had it in their hearts to even manage that.
I'm not mad on chanting or being mindlessly over optimistic, I don't mind being a bit cynical but I do mind being mean spirited and IMHO we have too many of those.
Away games tell you all you need to know - "they" don't go to those games - you work out why
The fans who do are in it for the love of the club and the support generated is magnificent compared to the graveyard that is BV. I'd say that is fairly unique amongst established clubs, where home support is usually an advantage, that has rarely been the case at BV and there in lays the difference IMHO.
That is the case for the prosecution - I get your point but I still think I'm right on this one.
