NOT HAPPY AT ALL icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif

Nothing to do with the performance of the team.... (save that for another thread )

BUT I did the timekeepers job tonight with only several hours notice and the abuse I received at the end of the game from some of OUR OWN SUPPORTERS was appalling.....

For those who decided to throw the insults my way (and you know who you are ) at the end of the game , the official line is both timekeepers (from both teams) have to agree that the playing time is up taking into consideration the referees stoppages.

Tonight in that second half myself and the Eagles timer were apart by 5 secs and that was the time we go with , not the stadium clock .. we were correct ..whatever your view

We lost that game , plain n simple because the Eagles played better than us over the 80 ,no other reason ..you want to blame me ?? What next , blame Amanda Cox cause the kit isn't washed right or Micky 1920 because the match video on YouTube wasn't up to scratch , ???

GROW UP, GET A LIFE ..ONLY DOING WHAT I WAS ASKED TO DO AS A VOLUNTEER, IF YOU WANT THE JOB AND OBVIOUSLY THE ABUSE THAT GOES WITH IT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ACQUIRE THE STOPWATCH FROM ME ..its all your for the next game icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif

I completely agree with you Rach, some of our so called supporters shamed the club tonight.

It seems we have a few people, like at all clubs who seem to do nothing but try and instigate conflict instead of enjoying the game.

They owe you an apology.

Whether it was because of the manner in which we played tonight or not I don't know but there was a really bad vibe amongst a lot of our fans tonight, almost to the point of aggressive like you'd more likely see at a football game. I don't want to be a part of that to be honest, we're better than that.

Why were they so desparate for us to play an extra couple of minutes anyway? We couldn't have won and only risked losing the bonus point.

I think because we were about to receive a goal line drop out and with what happened in the South Sydney Rabbitohs game last weekend. They had this delusion that we were going to run the drop out back for a try under the sticks, drop kick the conversion, and then return the kickoff 80 yards under the sticks and convert that to win the game. All because there was around 1:45 left on the scoreboard clock.

You think they'd know by now that that just because a clock is fancy and digital, it isn't any more official than our hand powered one at Cougar Park. I mean it's only a couple of years back when Danny Jones dropped a goal to win the game at Bramall Lane with 7 seconds left on the scoreboard clock yet the Eagles actually had time to play another set of 6.

I think its time for Sheffield to turn that clock off.

The first half it showed as zero time left so Cougars kicked it on first tackle high on a pen and Sheffield got it back and there was still time for about 4 or 5 tackles.

I did notice the clock stopped everytime the ref stopped the game (2nd half), how can there be such a difference between the time keepers and the clock in a ground icon_confused.gif: Who is in charge of this clock icon_confused.gif:

I know Cougars wouldn't have won but still its a point that is worth debating. Cougars were poor but thats also not the point.

For the record I only saw one guy who was really angry.

I think its time fans knew that the clock in any ground is not the official one.

Overall a poor game to watch, the narrow pitch made it low scoring. Sheffield were poor aswell in the second half, 55 minutes or so without posting any points. Defence appears to be back, hopefully as it was before. Attack is the same, dull training ground predictability, amateurish at times. Still the team performed well, restricted Sheffield and with one try less perhaps we could have won?

The rabbitiohs comments are ridiculous, we are Keighley not rabbitiohs! Could you see us scoring two tries in 2 minutes?! I couldn't. The clock was wrong in the first half, so presumably wrong in the second. Surely the clock at cougar park isn't really a 'timekeeping' device, it's pushed round by a stick.

1. I think you'll find Stealth was actually making the point that there was no chance of us winning even if the game had gone on for another 1 min 45 secs.

2. If you take the time to investigate (round the back) the Cougar Park clock is a marvel of good engineeering - when you see the gizzards of the mechanics it is amazing how accurate it is when so old.

3. The only time a clock in a ground shows the official time, is when its on the big screen at a live broadcast Sky / BBC match. I hope the players realise this as well and don't decide tactics based on what the unofficial clock says. Maybe they did at the end of the first half at Sheffield? ?

Cougars till I Die!:38265.jpg

Got to say that i was embarresed by some of our fans. One of which was who was with us. I personally had to walk away from it all. The game itself deffensivley was ok. Attacking wise we didnt have a clue. Certainly missed Coleman!

As for the Cougar fans the same individuals week in week out who have a go at the ref who think they no the rules but clearly they dont, should really do a bit of swotting up on rugby.

As for the person who was with us who shouted at Rach i can only appolagise on his behalf and i did have a word with him after. Keep the good work up Rach. The club would be nothing without volunteers.

Well said Rach , It's always the people who give their all that get the hate....
Maybe if more people voluteered to help on matchdays home or away then clubs
would be in a better position !
Like an earlier post said ,it's not like the extra couple of minutes would have made
the game a win for us ......
Keep up the good work Rach.....not all of us are haters.

I think the people who had a go at Rach should take a long hard look at themselves and realize that Rach does a good job, and does a hell of a lot for the Cougars and I for one appreciate what she does for the club.

As for the supporters who slag off the ref, or anyone else involved in the running of the game, then why don't you go out there and do the job, you can obviously do better than the people that are out there now.

I was behind the posts for the York game, and couldn't believe my ears when a supporter had a go at the ref because he made the correct call, a forward pass, by the Cougars which was about a foot forward and he disallowed a try because of it, but it was the correct call.

I think some people need to get a grip and realize that the Cougars will come good, but they want instant success and that is really pathetic, so get a grip and just enjoy the rugby and if we win, then great, if we lose, then so what, the cougars will come good just give them time.

Yes I know, it was other forum posts regarding rabbitohs last minute comeback. Largely I was agreeing with Stealth.

I have seen the clock being nudged with a stick! It gives a rough idea but it hardly Swiss watch engineering. I love that clock, it's my facourite part of the ground and should be a listed building.

I'm with you there. If the Cougars should ever move to a brand spanking new ground or if Cougar Park should ever be redeveloped, that clock and the scoreboard with the metal plate numbers MUST form part of the new / redeveloped stadium. We've all grown up (and older!) with it - it's part of our Cougar history.
.
Having watched Micky's video from last night, it looks to have been a bad-tempered afair at times. Our defending on their third try was pretty woeful - I couldn't quite make out who was wearing 12 last night but the attempt to get hold of the Eagles' ball carrier looked a bit flimsy to say the least. We seem to have found a level in this league which we're finding difficult to improve on at the moment; generally speaking we lose to the teams above us in the league and beat those below us. It would be a bonus if for example we could do enough in the coming weeks to beat Leigh at least once. Looking at the season as a whole, after being promoted last season, I'm going to look at things in a positive way. Onwards and upwards for our team.

I am one of those that likes a bit of banter with the opposition's supporters and to boo the referee at a percieved slight. It is all part of the humour of our game. Where I draw the line is when the final whistle blows we clap our side and theirs and applaud the the officials.
If we are blaming time keepers or referees for the loss of a game then we have to take along hard look at ourselves. Our game prides itself in the behaviour of our supporters and any abuse of officials is simply unacceptable. Those responsible should be named and shamed and I hope would be brave enough to apologise to Rachel without requiring the amount of Stella Artois that no doubt fuelled this particularly unsavoury incident..
