To protect the god that is Super League, as often as they have to, probably! Wrong, but not a shock all the same

To be fair, I think they have only brought forward the payment of Sky monies rather than give them a "gift".

The RFL is a different animal to the one that shafted us in 95.

It might be a different animal, but it still shares the same characteristics. There is so much wrong with the set-up of RL at the moment. It seems most can see it except those in the ivory tower at RFL HQ.

Yes I agree Dreamer it is a different animal now,back then it was a bunch of dishonest,incompetent brainless bunch of chairmen who we all new the names of,now its a equally dishonest,incompetent brainless bunch of faceless bureaucrats who no one knows the name of.

I would have thought the article in the T & A regarding council finacial help would have been harder to take

Any financial help from Bratfud council to the Dulls would certainly be hard to take but would come as no surprise. Having read the final paragraph of that report, I would love to see their SL place taken by Featherstone, Halifax or Leigh - Fev deserve it most I think - consistently the best team in our league.

The RFL are in a very difficult situation.

Like it or not Super League is the elite competition for the sport in this country. If Br*dford were to go off the face of the earth during the season poses many problems.

1) Any other Super League Club scheduled to play them at home between now and the end of the season loses revenue.

2) They have signed a contract with Sky for television rights. This could leave them needing to pay Sky compensation if games can't be fulfilled.

3) The largely middle class, southern based, pro rugby union press will have a field day which will be a PR disaster for the game.

4) There will be teams who lost to Br*dford who will get their defeats reversed if they go under, this could drastically alter the outcome of Super League.

On the whole it's the right decision by the RFL, their job is to protect the best interest of the game as a whole.

If I'm honest I always expected the RFL to bend over backwards to help the Dulls. I agree to a certain extend that the RFL needs to protect clubs, however, this has to fair across the board with the same level of support offered to all it's members. I appreciate the level of financial support will be dependent of each individual case but can the RFL say they have been fair to all?

The interesting factor for me will be how the RFL deals with the demands of the Dulls consortium, i.e they will only make an offer with guaranteed SL football and an ability to buy back Odsal.

The Dulls situation for me highlights a big problem with RL and a need for a re-think. Rumor has it that a number of SL clubs are in a similar situation to Dulls but it's not come to light yet. Firstly, how has this been allowed to happen since the introduction of the franchise system where teams' finances were suppose to be analysed to ascertain which grade of licence would be offered.

I note the RFL now wants to disband alliance (reserve) and acadamy teams at Championship level and have only clubs at SL level run these teams. Another show of contempt about anything below SL. A top to bottom analysis of the game is needed IMO.
