Inevitable but still very sad and condolences to him and his family.

The club have taken a fair bit of flack over the way he has been treated but I think they come out of this with a lot of credit as quite clearly this is much bigger than a rugby issue.

He's certainly been though a difficult time, that young man. As others have said, RL is a sport ... a matter of recreation. It's a much lesser priority than the lives of loved ones. Hope he and the rest of his family aren't suffering too much.

Condolences to Bevan and his family. It’s a truly horrific time for him and them. I don’t think now is the time to discuss him returning, it’s about getting him right whether that means he returns or not. As a club I think we’ve handled this pretty well, some things are just bigger than rugby.

“Some things in life are bigger than rugby. All our thoughts and prayers are with Bevan and his family at this time. His Wigan family will be waiting with open arms for his return, to care and protect him.”

I was sad to see some of the comments on another site about the club not treating French in a more ruthless way. I am glad that our club has stood by our player during this horrible situation and that when the time comes he is able to get back to doing what he does so well.

I don’t understand the comments at all, especially when people are comparing their experiences with the death of their parents and how they were treated by their workplaces with how we’ve treated Bevan French. Unless your 12,000 miles away from home, with a terminally ill parent during a global pandemic, were travelling to and from anywhere and in particular Australia is uncertain, I doubt anyone can truly compare. Every loss is heartbreaking to the individual but the stress Bevan French would’ve had to deal with by being stuck on the other side of the world in the current climate would be pretty unbearable and it’s something Wigan haven’t put him though thankfully.

My thoughts are with him and his family and as and when the time is right it’ll be lovely to see him back here.

It's from a few years ago but he talks about his upbringing and career - specifically how his mum worked her backside off as a single mum of 4 to give him the opportunity of a rugby league career.
