| As a team and as fans? The team didn't turn up, and the fans certainly didn't. As someone who watched us lose at Leeds away 70-0 then Saints away 75-0 in consecutive weeks, I really can't get my head round fans not turning up to watch us in a semi final, or even worse neutrals (who support us in finals or when we're playing well) who claim to be Wigan fans somehow wanting us to lose. Salford have a mentality that is severely lacking in Wigan right now, team and fans alike.

Salford fans only turned up like that because its all new to them. The novelty has worn off for Wigan fans, weve been spoiled with success. The best thing to get crowds back is for us to have a lean few years with no final appearances and before you start trying to put words in my mouth, im not hoping we have a lean few years.

The novelty has worn off? To get the crowds back we should avoid any success? Good grief man. I’ve never heard so much rubbish in all my life.

| This isn’t just a Wigan problem it’s a play off problem. The Wire-Cas game was much worse. In previous years we’ve had bigger attendances than most for the play offs, I remember decent crowds against Wire and Hull but I think a lot of fans were keeping their pennies until OT (Although that has gone down the pan)

| No Wigan didn’t deserve to win simple as that.
The crowd though is something else though has the town simply fallen out of love with the game, the spectre of football certainly casts its shadow long and wider than it ever has done.
The play offs have been excellent really but let’s also say that fatigue also set in 5 times saints and Salford was it? Far too much by anyone’s standards

45465_1384791340.jpg And last but not least, to all those people who wrote this team off.
To all those people who critisized this team...tonight's for you.

LMFAO. Hey Wigan, don't even think about stealing our current grand plan by having an extended "lean" spell. It's our plan and we're sticking to it!

| People spoke about Salford’s support last night as though it was earth shattering. It was good, no more and it was sad in many ways to see so many in that end when they don’t get half that on at the AJ Bell some weeks. Games like last night are ten a penny for our supporters and whilst it’s sad people couldn’t be bothered, the writing was on the wall after last weeks performance because people really are that fickle.
The sad thing about the last two weeks IMO is the negative affect it will have on season ticket sales. If we’d have put in a decent show last week, won last night and not took a pasting in the final, the sales would’ve gone well but I know our fan base and these two weeks will make plenty keep their hand in their pocket.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| It's not cheap, even with discounts for season ticket holders. In the last fortnight I have spent:
Salford week 1 £20.00
Saints week 2 £19.50
Salford week 3 £20.00
2020 Season Ticket £230.00
That's £289.50 with the prospect of another £120+ day out next week if we'd won last night. Imagine that multiplied up for families. Wigan isn't an affluent town and people have to make choices.
Poor crowd yes, but let's not get too tough on ourselves.

Agree , its too expensive. I remember a few years ago it was more expensive to get into Leigh in the championship than t was to watch Wigan in SL. The game has gone very dull to watch over the last 10 years or so , crowds agree . I barely even watch it on sky sports these days . way to many subtle rule changes have slowed the game down , like obstruction/crossing lots of legit tries being wiped off , penalties for imperfect play the balls , defence being allowed to lie on . Money pumped into ditches like Catalans /London/Paris , grass roots teams who built success like shefield being wiped out . The RFL have had a massive hand into turning the greatest game into a wrestling match with a ball. teams are meant to improve over time but i genuinely believe the saints team in early 2000's or wigan in the 90s would stick 40 past the top of the current crop. The salary cap also needs scrapping , we literally have no stars in the game that are known outside of the game. The only one from last 10 years is Sam Burgess and thats because of his stint in RU and he plays in Oz.
I was a massive fan of the cap to start off with as it did help other teams catch wigan up, but I can obviously see now how detrimental its been . I would even go as far to say xxxbrettkenyx was right and i was wrong. ( not sure he posts anymore )

No we shouldnt 'avoid' any success but not having any would be a blessing in disguise to crowds. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing and it becomes stale. A lean spell finishing outside the play offs for a few years would allow a reset of peoples interest.

Yes but when you start getting back into the playoffs your support will increase massively. Supporters will be so excited to see you back at Old Trafford that they will want to go to the games.

| Just a quick point - how many of the Salford fans who turned up last night turn up week in week out for the season as a whole? Not just the play-offs.......
No we didn't deserve to win last night - not even close. But thinking that the size of the crowd had some effect is just plain silly. If professional rugby league players cannot get themselves in the right mindset for a semi-final game like that then they are in the wrong game.

Exactly. I dont have a large crowd cheering me on to victory at work. Its the clubs job to attract the crowds by selling something that people want. People obviously do not want what they are selling.

| I think that Salford's players have responded well to the support they've received in the play-offs.
