| At this stage I'm more interested in who will be in charge in 2020.
Could Lam step up? Not had the best of starts but all this could be rectified if he turns the season around. Second issue with Lam; does he want the position long term? Even if he has a good 2019, doesn't mean he sees himself at Wigan long term.
So who else is suitable? I thought about Trent Barrett, but supposedly he's going to be offered a position in the NSW backroom staff.
Any shouts?

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| I hope Lam turns it round but I’m not sure he’s planning to stay even if he does. Assuming he does go, we’re looking at 5 categories of coach.
Established British
Established Aussie
Up and coming British
Up and coming Aussie
Left-field appointment (yawnion coach)
Personally I think at this point the club should be looking to bring in a proven Australian. I’m not sure the likes of Watson and Chester could cut it at Wigan and Powell is one of those where I think he is a great fit for Cas but probably not Wigan. I wouldn’t be entirely against enquiring about Tony Smith and bring in a defensive coach to work with him. A mature respected head is needed IMO.

I like the idea of a coach who can attract NRL names. I'd like us to use the marquee on 'marquee' players to strengthen our squad. I would/am interested in Barrett, depending on his situation.
I wonder how people would feel if we reappointed Shaun Wane?

| Can't see Trent coming over, simply down to the fact he left us first time around due to being 'homesick'.
Shane Flanagan is probably the standout coach available imo.
Yes there's baggage there, but he's not getting an NRL gig anytime soon and has decent pedigree as a coach too. It could do him the world of good to get away for a couple of seasons, let the heat die down & rebuild his rep.
I wouldn't be adverse to him bringing Gallen over for 12 months too, although reading his recent comments about his retirement plans that doesn't seem likely.
TL into the coaching staff too, simply because this was part of the deal he signed - although I might be wrong.

| I doubt that an established name would come over or that the club could afford him,Powell is my choice but again I doubt it’d happen so for me I’d take a chance on Watson, like it or not Wigan are selling club with a very limited budget and he’s done wonders there on next to nothing.

| I think, at the very least, once we've officially dispensed with Shaun Edwards, we ought to offer Lam the gig on something like a 3-year deal on a condition that he can turn things around.
It would be very difficult if the guy actually wanted the job and then was expected to carry on through 2019 while we openly looked for someone else.

Apart from his salary cap issues I do rate Flanagan. Great relationship with his players turning them into a NRL GF winning team.

This would be the worst option IMO. Let him serve an apprenticeship, preferably elsewhere, rather than be thrust into it too soon here and tarnish his legacy as KFC did at Saints.

| I’d look no further than Adrian Lam. I’m still confident that once his philosophy is transferred from the training ground and onto the game day, he can take us to success. Add a couple of players who he trusts to deliver his style of play and we’ll be fine.

Seems to me to be the most straightforward option. Ticks all the boxes of a top coach, he's currently unemployed & as far as the NRL goes he will be for several years.

Yes that's correct, his coaching record in Queensland cup was outstanding. We may well benefit from having him for a couple of years before he gets an NRL job and he is more than used to UK life. However, I really do like the sound of Flanagan, he is a top notch coach!
