| With regard to the incident on the hooter last night I think we need a rule change with regard to a penalty try. In the context of last nights game it is largely irrelevant, Just imagine, on the hooter of the CC final next week or the GF, 2 points behind and the same thing happens. For something so cynical and obvious we need to ensure it doesn't ever make the difference between winning a Trophey or not, or worse, relegation.

At the time I thought it was a dead cert penalty try, but having watched it since on Wigan tv I concede there's enough doubt that the officials probably got it right.

I haven't got a problem with the decision under the current rules. What I have got a problem with is potentially losing a final or worse the MPG if it happens again.

What do you have in mind as a change? I wouldn't mind having the word " probably" put into the rule, to make it less absolute. At present it reads: " if a try would have been scored", I think.

| For me the rule needs changing to shift the balance of the decision. At the moment defenders will take the risk to stop the try knowing that it will probably not be a penalty try. If the defender knew that they risk giving away a penalty try then they will be more likely to let the attacker take his chance.

| It could work both ways. For example the Tomkins sin bin during the semi final. Never a yellow card but if the wording was different and going by how the ref called it on the day he could have also given a penalty try.

I think the word probably is fairer, it will of course create further controversy at some point as people's opinion of probably will differ.
The wording is difficult, what I don't ever want to see is a player taken out the way Burgess was in a situation which prevents a team from winning a cup or causes a team to be relegated. Possibly something like if the referee believes a cynical foul has taken place to prevent a try scoring opportunity a penalty try should be awarded.

He didn't, there should have been a sinbinning for professional foul.

True, but it would have been a bit pointless as the hooter had already gone.

Not pointless if we miss fourth place by points difference smaller 6.

I don't see what difference a yellow card would have made to our points difference, except maybe a slightly better chance of scoring on the first play from the penalty.

| It at least gave us the comedy of us trying to run it down the short side from a tap penalty with one play left. When are we going to bother trying a high kick to 6ft 5in. Gelling? Land it on their goal line and 9/10 he would beat another player to it.

I was baffled that we didn't go for two rather than try and score on one play

| It wasn't a penalty try - Burgess kicked it too hard and wouldn't have caught it before it went dead in my opinion.
Definitely a yellow card though - the referee probably just couldn't be bothered to send him off given the time had run out.
