In 1950 Wigan won the RL Championship at Maine Road Manchester missing 8 of their players who were on a ship bound for Australia where they would be playing for Great Britain in the Test Matches. Tonight's Championship win, although it doesn't come near to matching that triumph, nevertheless is a remarkable effort considering all the problems with injuries throughout the season and in the last few matches and the final. Well done to all at the club and particularly to the players and to the coaching staff. You have made us proud to be Wigan supporters.
So pleased we won. Three GF losses on the bounce was not something to contemplate even though we had enough excuses potentially lined up for this one compared to the previous two.
I really thought getting there was as far as it was going and that Wire would do a professional job on us and win fairly comfortably. Glad to be wrong!
