It shouldn't matter how good a player is, if he's stepped too far over the line then he has to dealt with in accordance with the clubs procedures, and that would apply in any workplace.

The annoying thing is that the player will just sign elsewhere and carry on as normal, ultimately it's the club that loses out. Same as Clarkson and the BBC, they had no choice but to get rid even though they would lose the biggest show they have.

I believe he will be loaned out after his 4 week suspension with Wakefield a probable destination. We will then look to sell him for the start of next season.

“I met with John Bateman last year for St George Illawarra and I spoke to him about the possibilities but he’s still on a long-term contract,” Mulholland said.
“I did catch up with John again … when I was over there for the Magic Weekend. We’re always open to top-quality players and he’s one of the best ones in England at the moment, but certainly there’s no movement from us on that one.”
Mulholland also quashed rumours of a swap deal involving Bateman and Frank-Paul Nuuausala, who has also been linked with a switch to St Helens.
