| Other than the lack of size in our team (which I'm getting sick of mentioning) I've noticed a few more errors and trends which seem to be bringing our performances down.
1. Stopping Offloads. Despite being at the game yesterday. it's only now I've watched the game back that I've realised how easy and how often Salford offloaded. At times we had 3 people in the tackle but not one failed to disable the ball carrying arm. I mention this as the exact same happened against Leeds and I seem to remember Wane being very unhappy about it. I can't recall this happening as much in previous years so this needs to be eradicated and quickly.
2. George Williams caught in possession. Like most people I'm still not convinced by him. He's getting caught in possession far too often and we have no spark from the halves. The frustrating thing is he then goes and puts a good kick in for us which leads to a try and our fans think he can do no wrong. Very inconsistent. Watching highlights though he definitely needs to stop getting tackled with the ball especially as he's half the size of some of the props and it inevitably leads to us losing metres. I have a feeling Williams will go down the route of Luke Robinson/Joe Mellor and have good "potential" but never fulfill it. I understand that as a fan of our club its often a cardinal sin to criticise any player who has come through the academy but Williams has "Future Widnes/Wakefield Player" written all over him, sadly.

| Willians isn't making decisions quick enough and moves are stopping dead at times when the ball gets to him. I think he's a good player and makes ground with the ball but he's not dominant enough yet to play in the halves. He looks like an interchange hooker playing at six at the minute.
I still think our best team has Bowen or possibly Sarginson at fullback and Hampshire in at six. I don't see how that will be a possibility with Wane picking the team though.

| There was also, once again, the noticeable massive drop in intensity when Logan spells McIlorum. It's a tactic that has never worked and IMO LT is simply not Wigan standard. He's had over 40 first team appearances now, plus the loan spell with Salford last season. He offers nothing. McIlorum should either be left on for the full 80 or Williams should be used as the bench hooker. I'm not sure when Powell's back but I'd be putting him straight back in at 6 when he's fit, and using Hampshire there in the meantime.
Not sure if Clubb had a knock or if he was just knackered from Friday, but he was completely anonymous yesterday.

Williams' is also not playing to the line. I don't mean taking the line on, I mean taking it to the line then passing at the last minute after drawing in at least 1 defender. he'll pass before drawing in his man allowing the defence to hold their line.

| Dropping Bowen was a big decision. He's always been a confidence player and that will have hurt. Wigan need to find a way to get him back into the team as quickly as possible playing to the best of his ability (accepting the fact that he's going to have "off games" as well as good ones). Either that or bench him for good. But that will put an awful lot of strain on the kids.

Clubb got injured after playing about 15 minutes, maybe less, and never returned. Had ice on his top thigh/hip area

The same observation seems to be working with Saints fans as well.

Leeds have been head and shoulders above the rest but they are still a lot poorer than they were 4/5 years ago.
Maguire, Burrow, Sinfield, Peacock, JJB, Leuluai, Albert etc are all older and worse than during Leeds peak.
When you then factor in they had Gareth Ellis and Keith Senior as well as younger versions of the above it looks to me like they've been hit by the decline as well.

| Just watched the game. Actually quite a decent contest, and I don't think we should be too dispirited. Salford look unrecognisable from the rabble that got hammered by Saints early in the season, and we put in a hell of a shift after Friday. Hampshire was terrific, Tierney was good, and Tautai looked far better than I'd seen him before. Sadly, Williams' crucial indecisions, as others have said upthread, (amongst other things) cost us. Bateman, who had another great game, will be a big loss. The bloody fool.

| I felt the decision to take the two points to go 8-0 up was the wrong decision. We should have carried and gone for the try or forced another set of six. We did the same against leeds and that backfired too. Going for the two instead of going for it must be a psychological advantage for the defending team!
