It is a chronic problem which happens time after time, Smith stands to far infield because he does not seem to trust the players inside of him and then Goulding rushes in like an headless chicken which leaves a massive gap between himself and his winger.
How many times as this been posted on this forum and still it keeps happening?, nobody seems to try and rectify the problem, sad to say this but Goulding seems to offer less and less every game.
Gelling who almost ran himself to a standstill has to play right centre in future.

I think trust is the key word here.

A good example is when Ferres offloads to Wardle in 2nd half resulting in a try. It was a good offload but Manfredi should not have been sucked into that tackle, he had to stick with Wardle and trust Goulding to deal with Ferres, which I think he would have. Difficult thing to get consisently right and probably just inexperience.

Goulding has been awful this year imo

Agreed, if gelling was playing the way Goulding is all hell would break loose.

I'd have expected Goulding to rip up trees last night to try and take his chance to win his place back yet he was awful. I've sati it before, he's missing Hsnsen and Sam Tomkins more then anybody. He had a great relationship in attack and defence with those two and he's suffering.

If Manfredi stays on his wing Ferris gets bundled into touch by Goulding and no try. How Goulding can get blamed for that is beyond me.

For the other try down that side Wells and Carney summed it up perfectly, that side was short on numbers and Smith strayed too far inside.

In attack whoever has played right centre and wing this season has barely got the ball. Without O'Loughlin and Tomkins the whole attack passing from left to right is completely different and nothing like when its passed from right to left. Just compare the 'move' and it is totally different, no dummy runners and too many players hogging the ball. Also the ball invariably stops with Bateman or Bowen who go themselves. Last night Bowens try was a prime example, if he had passed the ball it was an easy try for Goulding or Manfredi but he went himself and luckily got the try but it was a bad call on his part.

It's more a case of the forwards having a tendency to stay too far into the middle of the field and get caught out leaving a massive overlap out wide. That's what happened last night for Murphy's try when Brough threw the long pass. Smith was desperately calling for Bateman to move across, which he only did at the last minute, then Smith failed to adjust, Goulding was left defending against two players running on angles so had to move inside and that meant there was little Manfredi could do.
The same thing has happened quite frequently this year, more often at the start of the season, when the pack just wouldn't slide across or would number up incorrectly.
