| Frightening prospects. The pace Burgess has and his ability and confidence to take a man in in the outside is brilliant. One criticism if him when he broke in the second half he should have gone down the line rather than cut inside, if he had I feel the inside pass to Tonkins would be under the sticks.
Bateman, physical very clever and naturally very very strong. Has that bit of mongrel in him as well.

| bateman to me looks like an 18 year old andy farrell, just so technically sound with a very good rugby brain also doesn't take a backwards step which i really appreciate.
would like to see more highballs put across to Burgess but he is a quality player and not just for a youngster.

| Two of the best young players in the game (and I mean the whole game both here and down under). Wane keeps saying he'll rest them but how could you playing like that with the games we've had?!!
Now is the time though. The pair should have their feet up until St Helen's on Good Friday IMO. We've got three games now to rest people and have players opportunities.
Big win for the complexion of our season tonight. We now look like we can go in to Easter in a very solid position as long as we stay switched on.

Sorry, cant agree, you can't go a month then come into a match with the intensity of a Wigan/Saints game with no match fitness. They won't be tested too much against the Dragons, Broncos or Rams, and the experience and confidence the will gain will prove worthwhile against St.Helens.

It crossed my mind to say let's give them a game against London before Good Friday but I'd rather let them rest and save them up for the bigger games. If they're a bit rusty on Good Friday so be it because the benefits long term will outweigh a possible defeat in that game.

| Both of them were absolutely fantastic.
When O'Loughlin is back I'd quite like to see Flower and Farrell in the second row, with Bateman off the bench, as at the moment, Hughes isn't doing it for me. And Flower doesn't have to play prop unless there are injuries as we have Crosby, Taylor, Pettybourne, Clubb, James and Dudson.

| Bateman will play every big game going, he is class.
Burgess, wow. Monaghan who I usually see as one of huge best wingers in the league really struggled with him today, he is going to be a star.

| Burgess is great with the ball but his defence is different class for such a young player. He really gets involved and hits people hard which for a winger is unusual but great to see.
His interview at the end was funny as well! Sounded like he'd been practicing what he'd say when his big moment came. Great to see a young lad like that living his dream.

| I was slightly concerned with Farrell and Bateman both starting prior to the game, feeling they might be both to similar players. Both had quality games and Bateman is so consistent, he's been in my top 3 in every game so far this year. We can hopefully give him a rest for the up and coming games before the big one against Saints. As for Budgie he's the perfect replacement for Pat, very reliable and does what a winger is supposed to do from the back. Needs to start scoring some more tries though for my fantasy team

| burgess owned joel M from the very first play which is one, frightening for his age in comparison to experience and game know-how and two, even more significant considering joel has been one of the best wingers in the SL for some time now. and you can't put that down to a poor overall wire performance, George had an answer for everything JM attempted.
have been salivating about john B since his signing and he's proving to be one of our best signings of recent years already, alongside the currently ever present scott taylor who again scares the hell out of me considering his age.

| Very impressed with Burgess last night. You often get young quick wingers capable of scoring, but he seemed to have a lot more to his game. Seemed to perform in every aspect of his game. Seems to have the intelligence of a veteran.
I'm sure he'll have a successful career in the NRL or union.

| Both look absolutely tremendous prospects. Love the look of bateman (and did whilst at the bulls, glad he got rid of that sh+tty haircut though!!) He fits the overaggresive chav tag perfectly as a wigan player
There's been a lot of people bagging that game (and it wasn't the best) but for me that was the real Wigan showing up. Merciless in defence and out-wanting the opposition.
good performance - massively more dominant than the scoreline suggested.

| Got to give Flower a mention too. Thought he was outstanding. He made about 3 cracking last-ditch tackles around the 70th-75th min mark when Wire were piling on the pressure. Never took a step backwards in attack either...

| I'm not 100% sure Burgess needs a rest. Being a winger is arguably the easiest position to start off your career at. He's a young athletic lad so I don't think there are any issues there. He's just got to be managed correctly when he eventually has a bad game. It's going to happen at one point this season and when it does Wane has to ensure his confidence isnt smashed.
Bateman on the other hand needs a different approach. It stands to reason that if we keep playing him week in week out then it's simply a case of not if but when he'll get injured. Let's not forget he's a player who has been badly let down by his former employers and by the statments made when we signed him Wigan know they need to tread carefully.
The only issue with Bateman is there's not a huge list of talented guys behind him. Its another issue that would have been easily avoided had we not let HH leave.
