Is the game walking headlong into a major storm over players being investigated by ASADA and also took part in the world cup ?
Gallen in particular is hiring top lawyers and a lot of players are expected to be issued with infraction notices
What does everyone think ?

It would have been helpful if you had explained what ASADA stood for. Anyway for anyone who, like me, didn't know it is the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

| "Moley" on twitter has been hinting at this for a couple of days...
But i'm sure he said that a coach was to be implicated too... Never good for the sport. NRL or not, the establishment press will have a field day with it.

Said in jest & it'll never happen, but the fall-out would be huge if it turns out any significant number of players who were at O/T were on anything they shouldn't have.

I'd be amazed if they weren't to be honest. Given the lax level of testing though, it's more surprising that any ever get caught.

| Along side this is the threat of the match fixing allegations in football spreading to other sports. I hope rugby league doesn't get caught up in this nonsense, but when you have low paid players.... the risk is even higher

If there are a significant number of players involved and this resulted in long suspensions just imagine what an impact this would have on Superleague for where would the NRL clubs go looking for replacements.

| But in all seriousness what happens if 3/4 of the Oz national team get caught up in this? Already sounds like Gallen may be a little worried - personally i think they've been getting away with this kind of thing for years...

There is also another matter to worry about when thinking about this subject. It is the anti doping agencies themselves. The notorious Lance Armstrong case was conducted shamefully by the USADA and they have a very poor record in matters of fairness. An old article in the LA Times, discusses it more fully:- articles.latimes.com/2012/aug/26 ... k-20120825. One might ask where is the money made? I hope ASADA is behaving with complete honesty. Because a big, successful case will bring additional publicity and funds to their labs.

Would the clubs involved be in any state to do serious poaching? I've not been paying attention too closely to all this, but shirley there must be collusion somewhere in the trainer/coach/club hierarchy if there's more than a couple of squad members involved? if it's just one per club, you could argue "bad egg", but several says "endemic, concerted & coordinated effort to cheat". If it's the latter, the club should be thrown into the Tasman Sea with weights round their ankles.
And as far as the conspiracy theory that ASADA are milking it for gain, that comes under the same bonkers heading that Armstrong is innocent & has been stitched up by USADA.
What next? Scientology is a bona-fide religion.....oh, hang on.

| A Hope is a Theory???? In your book, maybe, but not in mine. Armstrong was certainly guilty, but the arithmetic, and the judge's comments, would suggest that all is not well at USADA. My HOPE is that ASADA is okay!

| Looks like Cronulla are the principle culprits in the doping nonsense down-under. Maybe I'm being a bit charitable, but it looks as if at least some of the players didn't have any idea what they were being injected with.
Only 3 Sharks players in the Aus squad (3 too many) & none in the Kiwis so we can't use that excuse after all.
