If there's a change of coach after the World Cup, Wane is top of my list by far. Anderson looks to have potential but he's only had one season so far. But Wane has delivered (with a lot of doubters throughout) very well in his two years in charge of Wigan whilst lost big name players and not been able to make major signings to make his job easier.

Wondered what you guys would think of this?

I like the ethos Wane appears to have brought as a coach he seems to be able to build a very good team ethic with everyone focused on the job and being selfless for the team not being a big star for themselves. The fact he is also a humble and low key personality himself helps too.

Would you support Wane as England coach if he could do it part time like Noble did as GB coach? Or would you accept it as England fans if he went full time with England and Wigan had to search for a new coach (should be an attractive prospect and wouldn't be short of applicants?)

The one thing wane would get would be respect and the players playing for each other

He's done very well for an 'ape'! Part time yes, full time no, Wigan need him. If macguire (sp?) was available then he would be my preferred choice

McNamara to stay on as a rugby director for me, sorting out all the dull (but important) stuff with Waney as a first team coach on a part time basis is the way to go.

If they want an out and out fulltime coach and need to replace McNamara then go to Oz and give the job to Daniel Anderson or Brian Mcclennan. They both have excellent records here and can motivate players.

My only slight doubt about Wane that he could be a bit too "Wigan" in his selection policy due to the passion he has for the club.

To be fair though he seems the best option. It is not a full time position, add to this the wealth if back room staff we have I feel we could comfortably accommodate him in both roles.

I think he's got more about him then that tbh. He'd pick the best team for the job and get then fired up.

I fully agree, I think Wane's no nonsense approach would gain him the respect he would need. He has the potential to be a top coach in this country and with the young and exciting English side he is building here it would benefit both Wigan and the national side. One thing is for sure, Goulding wont be overlooked any more, The most baffling omission i can think of, not the first time either though. I dont know if Goulding has ever done or said anything to McBanana but one thing is for sure, Our national coach does not like him for some reason.

Back on the subject of Wane as England boss, Yeah it probably would get a bit biased with the Wigan side but look at that side in more depth, We have a wealth of youngsters coming through. I could see a team like this in 5 years time if Wane was in charge.

1.Tomkins

2.Charnley 5.Briscoe
3.Goulding 4.Watkins
6.Widdop
7.Hampshire

8.T.Burgess 9.G.Burgess 10.S.Taylor
11.Hill 12.Singleton
13.S.Burgess

14.Sutcliffe
15.Bateman
16.Burke
17.Cooper

Just as a rough guess, I know there is a lot missing out, It all about power and pace, i think that is what Wane would go for, The key for me is the centres and wingers playing at club level with each other.

I wondered how long it would be before someone suggested this.

As a Wigan fan I'd prefer him to concentrate 100% on Wigan. But if he wanted to do it, it would be wrong to try and stop him.

The question is surely - would he want to? How much would he stand to gain career-wise?

Off the top of my head, I can only think of Tony Smith in recent times who went on to better things after the England job, and that was down to his existing rep, not because international success had advanced his career.

It seems to me the only real yardstick against which you can measure an England or GB coach is how his team performs against Australia - which is a tall order for all kinds of non-coaching related reasons. Even winning the odd game wouldn't be sufficient, because that's been managed before, and yet achieving anything more than that is virtually impossible in the current climate.

It may be defeatist of me, but I'd call the England job a poison chalice for someone like Shaun Wane, who is still relatively new in his first grade coaching career.

If the RFL want to continue with a full time position then the better coaches wont be interested as internationally there are too few games. The earlier post suggesting McNamara as an administrator with a part time head coach is a good one. There are a few who would be on my list. Wane and McDermott certainly, my preferred option would be Powell at Cas. Always impressed me as a coach and has a fair few years of experience. He would also have the bonus that it is unlikely he could be accused of club bias creating factions in the squad which happened under Smith.

I think we missed a trick not having Wane in the coaching set up for this WC. He's proved himself to be an exceptionally good man manager / motivator (as well as a talented coach) and would have added a lot to the England set up.

Shaun Wane won't give up the Wigan job to go full time for England.
Part Time I do think he might well do it. If the GB gig came up then he and Harris would be an almost shoe in.

Wane's 24 man England squad, based on 2013 form.

Tomkins,
Charnley, Goulding, Watkins, Hall,
Widdop, Brough,
Graham, Roby, G Burgess,
S Burgess, Westwood,
O'Loughlin.
Then - Hardaker, Ratchford, Smith, Mossop, McIlorum, Hill, Crabtree,
Ferres, Farrell, Ablett, Kirmond.

I've put Goulding in there and moved Watkins to left centre as the club partnerships could work well.
No Sinfield or Chase but Widdop and Brough with Ratchford and Smith in the squad due to their form. Hardaker who can cover full back and centre.
I went for the form forwards. Wane wouldn't select Hock.

Yes I don't know how you could assume that Wane would pick lesser players just because they were from Wigan.

I expect it would be used against him though because even if he picked all of England's best players they would probably get beat more often than not by the Aussies, so fans of other clubs on these forums would say Wane was clueless and just choosing players because they played for Wigan rather than looking at all those superstars at smaller clubs who would have beaten the Aussies if only they could get a chance...
