Matty Smith is a good solid 7 with a decent all round kicking game but come on - he's nothing special by any means.

He's been pretty consistent since his 1st game at Wigan.

He's only 26 which means he'll offer us long term consistency which is one of the big things I think Wane and Lenagan were looking for when they signed him.

In just a couple of seasons we could see a very special partnership with between Smith and Hampshire.

But he is just what we need - not only in games but over the longer term with young players like Hampshire in the halves - a steady player like Smith will be just the ticket. Plus he does seem to step up in big games - not a bad trait to have.

He's been superb! We've longed for a 7 who offers a great kicking game. He fits into our structures so well and I think those from Sint Helen's regret letting him go now could become Wigans Sean Long!
